Opening printer program causes desktop to go to 8-bit?

Does anyone know why every time I open my printer program (HP Solution Center) my screen goes to 8-bit? Most of the time after I close the program, the screen was returning to 32-bit, but now I have to manually change it. Thanks for any help!

Update:

Run in 256 colors actually was checked.... I unchecked it, clicked apply then ok, but is is still going to 8 bit after clicking the printer icon....

FInd the HP Solution Center icon, but instead of openning it, right click it instead and select Properties. On the Compatibility tab, see if "Run in 256 Colors" is somehow set (it shouldn't be). That would explain how the 8-bit (=256) color mode is getting set.

EDIT: try a reboot first if you haven't already done so. Try clicking "Change settings for all users". Also, go to the HP program folder C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\Digital Imaging\bin - the (x86) may not apply to you - and check the compatibility settings on "Hpqdirec.exe" which is the solution center program name.

Or, you just might consider uninstalling and reinstalling the entire HP printing software. That might be simpler and faster.

How that compatibility mode got set is a mystery to me.
