Transmission question?
I have a 1997 Lexus GS300. When I start out in the morning after about a 10 minute drive, maybe less, when I come to a complete stop my transmission seem to downshift a little hard. It happens only once maybe twice and only seems to do it when the weather starts getting cooler. Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on what this might be? I have called the dealer and they tell me that they do not work on transmissions, they only replace them and that is really not in my budget right now.

that could be a result of not changing the filter, try that first. it's not very expensive( the fluid will most likely cost more that the filter) if that doesn't help then there may be a more serious issue going on inside the tranny.

When was the last time you checked the transmission fluid level or had the transmission serviced? Any decent mechanic can replace the trans screen filter and replace the fluid for a nominal charge.
It figures the Lexus dealer would try to screw you on this repair. That's what you get for buying an overpriced Toyota. They aren't really a luxury brand. They just act like one on TV.

Ask yourself when was the last time u had it serviced ? You're supposed to service all transmissions once a yr . Such as fluid and transmission filter or it could be a bad sensor . If its still acting up then it could be in the first stages of going out on u . Never go to the dealer unless its under warranty because of their high shop rates .

If you haven't had the transmission serviced lately now might be a good time to do this. If your local dealer's service department refuses to help you, find a Toyota service department and schedule it with them. Call the area Lexus distributor branch office and make a complaint, for a service department unwilling to help a customer with a 14 year-old car (a loyal Lexus owner, no less) is unacceptable.
