Can you answer this hockey question about a bad hockey idea, and poke holes in it? (part 3)?
In the shootout, a team 3rd shooter MUST be the goaltender. It could really make or break teams that often go into OT. Think about it, say your most beloved team is the Devils. They are playing the Flames and it goes past OT and into the shootout. The first shooter is Elias , the second shooter is Jason Arnott, and the 3rd shooter is Brodeur (because of this new rule). Now I know that brodeur was a forward when he was a kid, so he might have some crazy awesome wrist shot.
1) Love the idea or hate the idea?
2) What are the biggest flaws with this idea?
Disclaimer: If you do not know me, I would never really want to see the game changed, and this question is solely for research purposes.
I AM NOT SURE WHY PART 1 AND PART 2 ARE NOT SHOW UP, BUT BELOW ARE THE LINKS......

1. Part of me loves the idea. Part of me hates the idea.
On one hand, I mega-loathe the shootout. On the other hand, if a team's goaltender is forced to try to score against the opposing team's goaltender, that is infinitely more entertaining than the way the shootout currently is (except in rare cases like your example of Brodeur, who might have a decent chance of scoring).
2. The biggest flaw is that it doesn't completely get rid of the shootout. However, that flaw is the only one I wouldn't enjoy if this "bad hockey idea" were to become a reality. The other flaw(s) is/are why I would enjoy this much more than the way the shootout currently is (and they might even get me to watch a shootout in the future, although that's a longshot when you consider I can just look on YouTube for the shootout attempts I want to see without having to endure the other attempts). There's a chance that a goaltender (or both goaltenders) could repeat Kovalchuk's attempt (against the Sabres on November 10), and there might even be a goaltender whose shootout attempt is even more hilariously awful (I just hope the goaltender shooting at that time isn't Halak or Kiprusoff).

Can the goaltender at least get to use a player stick if they want?
1) Sure...they do this in soccer (have a goalkeeper take a penalty kick). If a shootout goes beyond 12 rounds...it's goalie on goalie time. Yes folks, that's Hot Goaltender on Goaltender Action!
2) Not exactly easy shooting a puck wearing goaltender gloves and using a goalie stick, which of course gets added to the list of DanEllisproblems.

1) They should pull the other goalie and have the goalie try and shoot it in from his own net in under 5 seconds.
2) Biggest flaw is that there is a rule in place that states goalies cannot cross the centre redline and touch the puck. Failure to comply results in a penalty - See Patrick Roy
Edit - They should let the goalies shoot third but instead of a shootout, it should be 1on1, goalie vs goalie, first goal wins!

Hate. But I don't like the idea of any shoot out. It's not our game.
Our game is not a freak-show. You are basing the outcome of the game on the most trivial of individual talents. i.e. The game has gone 65 minutes and 4 shots based on the great saving abilities of the goalie. Now decide it on his ability to score?
Did you do the math? Shootouts are decided after 3 shooters. So if there is 1 goal after 2 shooters and the goalie coming up - there is no suspense - chalk it up as a loss.
Ever heard of the 40 year old American League Baseball Designated Hitter rule? They figured it out and haven't looked back. Why would we?
What rules for the goalie and time delays? Is he taking off his gloves and pads and mask, etc. Then taking the shot, then putting it all back on as he has to go back in net and the other goalie shoots.

There was two seconds left in the third period, the score of 1-1 haunted the Georgina Golden Hawks as they wanted to advance to provincials with all their hearts desires. With one minute and thirty seven seconds left Erin form the Georgina Golden Hawks got a hooking penalty. We all thought we had no chance of winning after this event. I was put on with "Fat *** Fifty Five", a fourteen year old girl who was bigger than a humpback whale. Man did she have it out for me too, just because I wasn't scared to hit her and the fact that I can withstand her arena shaking hits. With a minute left in the game me and Courtney began to head up the side of the boards. Fat *** Fifty Five came rushing at me, she didn't want the puck she wanted me on the ice in pain. Quickly I made an across ice pass to Courtney. I had no time to dodge the hit that was sprung my way. An huge shoulder cut into the middle of my neck leaving me gasping for air. Her fist firmly planted into my chest winding me even more. I could feel her force pushing on me so, like every other Hockey player I hit her back, hard. We were both sent spinning down towards the cold hard ice beneath us. As my head firmly smacked down against the hard surface I heard loud cheering. Courtney had scored the winning goal. My trainer made her way onto the ice. All I remember after that point was a pool of blood laying on the ice beside me and waking up in the Hospital an hour later. That's my story, sorry it isn't very exciting the only injuries I've had from Hockey are sprained wrist, ankles, elbows, broken fingers and concussions,

1. Strongly dislike. Might as well have the head coach take a shot.
2. Would he have to use his goalie stick?
That would be a flaw right there.

1. I'm mildly infatuated with the idea, but not aroused. I think they should put whoever broke into Burns' car in net without any padding and only allow slapshots.
2. Biggest flaws - just another way the Leafs could lose.

No. Kiprusoff is terrible at handling the puck. And I am a flames fan so no thanks.
My biggest flaws are that goalies are supposed to be stopping the puck not scoring goals.

Actually, Brodeur is a great puck handler. It is said that the NHL created the trapezoid rule ("Brodeur Rule") for that reason.
