Atheists If you read the Bible with an open mind how could you not believe that God is real?

At 44 years of age in 2004, I had never been to church. I did not understand , nor gave it any thought as to why all the various denominations. I agreed with Jesse Ventura that religious people are weak minded. I grew up in the American public school system of the 60s and 70s so I was taught nothing of God there. Although every night before dinner, one of the family members said 'God is great. God is good. let us thank Him for our food', outside of that God and Jesus Christ were never mentioned by my parents(not in a bigot way, just not). I do recall picking up a bible, but quickly putting it down(in more ways than one) at some time in my life. My ex wife and I never discussed it, neither have any gfs since.

In 04 I heard on cd the gospel of Mark - spoken, instead of read from a book -

Is has a slightly different chronology, that chronology is proof of Usshers' error

Usshers' error shows how absolutely exact Gods' word is, down to the very hour and minute(9/11)

People tell me that they have not met anyone who knows the bible as I do, that is what they tell me.

My response is 'All wisdom comes from God', for it does.

Every single word has power and meaning and they effect for the blessing (Gen22) and the destruction(Jer25) of nations for the cause of departing (harlot) from God. (Gods' will is done on earth as in heaven) That the USA, so blessed by God, now claims 'monkeys as our fathers' is more fulfillment of prophecy! Who can stop it?

Every soul created eternally before the foundation of the world -

Rev20 - tells of what happens to all those souls at the end of time(eternity-all time, Ecc3:11)

They go to 1 of 2 'everlasting habitations' Lk16:9

Either to be with God and Christ who are 'from everlasting to everlasting'(Ps90,Ps41,Mc5:2,Pv8:23etc)

or the everlasting lake of fire - some people have a problem with this, Me? who am I to contend with God more than I already have?

'outer darkness' will be here on earth while the 7 bowls are being poured out. I think at that point heaven will be open over Jerusalem(Rev14-16), it will be according to Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego in the firey furnace.(Zec2:5,Ob18,Ps83:14)

Anyone who starts the Bible with an open mind and is paying attention will notice that the second chapter of Genesis has another creation story, and it contradicts chapter one. All consideration that this might be a divinely revealed book disappears then.

The same can be said for reading the Gospels, since they contradict one another constantly. Matthew and Mark, for instance, can't agree on whether James and Jonathan asked to sit at Jesus' right and left hand in heaven, or whether their mother asked for them. More examples are easily found.

The Bible falsifies itself. There is no reason to hypothesize a God.

Anyway, many atheists have read the Bible from front to back. It's not evidence of God, it was written by human hands, and conjured by human minds. The horrific things that can be found in the Bible are also a testament to that, as it was written in a time period where killing the unruly was not frowned upon. There's nothing more to it.

What one has to do is take a college class on the Old Testament and New Testament for a better understanding of the Bible. Just reading it does not lend itself to understanding.

Many atheists were raised in strong Christian families and turned when they developed free will.

I have read it several times. I have read it in Russian, French, Spanish, Hebrew (for the OT) and Greek (for the NT). I have even gone so far as to peruse the Vulgate online, although I haven't gone into detail. I have also availed myself of the Septuagint.

Just to make sure I have a thorough background of what I read, I also have the Mishnah, and "The Guide to the Perplexed" by Maimonides. I also have read multiple times "Sayings of the Desert Fathers," and I have several works by early Christian Roman authors in the original Latin.

I think modern Christianity has *COMPLETELY* missed the boat.

Is there something I might have missed?

There is no quicker way of becoming an Atheist than reading the Bible.

"Only a fool says in his heart, There is no God" - Like any good meme or chain letter, you want to discourage people from disbelief. The Bible is nothing more than a chain letter that is used to increase the income for organised religion.

After reading Bible many have become Atheists. Most Muslim preachers today were Catholic priests in US. Because Islam is the next step to atheism.

If you actually read it with an 'open' mind, there is no way that you can see that Yahweh is not brutal, malevolent, and in some cases petty.

He cast Satan out of heaven, then watched as he tricked his other creations into sinning. Yeah, that sure sounds like the type of love I want. He'd allow a being dastardly enough to even attempt to disobey him converse with his other creations as he pleased? Nope, sounds silly to me, doesn't sound like something a competent being would do.

I'm not an atheist anymore (pagan reborn!), but it was reading the Bible that made me turn away from Christianity. The alterations seemed obvious to me. I have always felt a true holy scripture would be universally understood. Seeing so many different congregations shows me there is nothing near a consensus as to what the Bible says.

Read it. Every word. Honestly there were parts that were as entertaining as any Ann Rice novel.... but the "begats and begots" and Gods instructions to Joseph were pretty tough to get through. I like Ann Rice but don't believe in Vampires..... I read the bible and still do not believe in God... as a matter of fact it sealed my atheism.
