The T/P valve (Temperature and Pressure relief valve) is a safety device. To replace, you need to turn off the water heater and drain the water down below the valve. Some T/P valves are on top the heater and some are on the side. It is simple to replace them with a wrench and some pipe dope compound. They just screw in. Make sure the cold water supply to the heater is turned off before unscrewing the T/P valve. There should not be a hose connected to the T/P valve.

What hose at the bottom? You mean the valve at the bottom? Gotta drain the hot water heater by opening the valve all the way, attach a garden hose and direct it into the yard someplace. Then, screw off the valve and buy a new one at Home Depot or Lowes, it is not too hard to do.

Caulk probable won't help, and it could void any guarantee. If the "water heater" breaker is a double and your place hasn't had a great style of handyman maintenance, you probable close off the electrical energy. in case you probably did not by some means, the probable consequence is a burned ingredient. If water gets interior the circuit, it's going to probable holiday the breaker, only. No threat of explosion-they're designed to not explode on failure. you don't get to take warm showers till it truly is fixed or replaced. flow to a wellbeing midsection, take the range water tub, or wait. only in case, make valuable that the valve decrease than is close: turn it clockwise, if it does not flow, it truly is close. no could desire to coach ccw. for the reason which you're saying it truly is over your head, I advise which you do not attempt to repair it. Use towels to maintain the floor dry so the floor won't get ruined. If each and all the valves are close, not greater that the tank potential can leak out. greater suited a discomfort interior the *** for a million night than some thousand in flood injury.

If your not messing with the safety valve (Just checking) you can buy a hose cap. It has hose threads and is made to cap leaking spigots. they sell them everywhere.
