charged for cancelled after-school care?

we pay for my son to attend after-school care which is held in his school but run by an outside agency. Because of the weather they have cancelled the club this week but me (and all the other parents) who have paid in advance for it are not entitled to any refunds whatsoever as they claim they still have to pay their staff - I think it is unfair that they have cancelled but are passing 100% of the cost onto the parents for a service they are not providing - you pay for the care upon making the booking and it is debit or credit card so you can't even cancel it. They have a monopoly on after school care in my area so I am over a barrel as cannot arrange for care anywhere else (we only need after school care and few childminders willing to do this only during term time) - is there really nothing I can do about this (apart from mild outrage and gnashing of teeth!)

that is extremely unfair, if they choose to pay their absent staff that should come out of their profit not the parents pockets

maybe the parents should get together and make some sort of petition or strike or something so they lose money.. maybe those suggestions aren't realistic depending on all of your situations but if you all got together you could probably brainstorm and find a solution to get your money back because it really isn't fair. Individually it might not be too much money but imagine how much money they're making out of you collectively for a service they're refusing to provide at no fault of ur own!!

its outrageous! I hope it works out for you!

Maybe you could get together with the other parents and complain to the school board about the situation. The parents could start a nonprofit child care service using held in the school which would replace the present child care provider when that current provider's contract is up. It would take a little work to set up a board and hire someone to run the program.

I'm a mom. I would pay/think you should charge $10/day. This is how much I made 10 years ago when I was a senior in high school and watched 3 boys for about 2-3 hours... man I got ripped off!
