Can you answer this hockey question about a bad hockey idea, and poke holes in it? (part 2)?
I am asking this again, only because it did not post yesterday. Roar.
Okay, here is a wild one. Stop giving penalties for fighting or instigating. Monetarily fine the individual player that gets into a fight. That right, you heard me, if a player wants to fight another, he has to pay a fine out of his salary. This would mean that when a team is looking for a gritty chippy player, they will have to pay them more, so the player can pay for their physical craft. Sure, in the beginning of the season, fights would be galore, but then at the end of the season….when things are getting close in the playoff race, the teams that have players that have been good, would have the upper hand. Fines would be determined by the severity of the fight after the game by the Toronto War Room video goal judges.
1) Love the idea or hate the idea?
2) What are the biggest flaws with this idea?
Disclaimer: If you do not know me, I would never really want to see the game changed, and this question is solely for research purposes

1) I hate the idea. First of all I would prefer to see the instigator rule dropped altogether so fighters can do their jobs. Trust me, if they dropped the instigator rule you would see an end to the cheap head shots and hits from behind which are a far bigger problem than fighting will ever be. Players used to show way more respect on the ice for the exact reason that players could police themselves and it amazes me that otherwise knowledgeable hockey people who whine about the increase in concussions cannot make the connection. How long do you think a guy like Avery would last if he actually thought he would have to pay the consequences of his immature behaviour.
2) I have already covered a little bit in part one, but I see one huge flaw in your thinking. If you start with fighting, why would you not then extend the thinking to other penalties? And then, of course, all penalties. If the league gets a taste of penalties as a continual and endless revenue stream I see it becoming a disaster that would ruin the game.
I repeat, DROP THE INSTIGATOR RULE!

1. I don't hate anything, I do dislike this idea. You take the self-policing element out of the game. You also take away a portion of passion (sounds like a mixed fruity drink).
2. It would cut down on fighting for sure but I suppose the fights that are had, would be good ones. But I don't like over paying a player just for one purpose.

There was two seconds left in the third period, the score of 1-1 haunted the Georgina Golden Hawks as they wanted to advance to provincials with all their hearts desires. With one minute and thirty seven seconds left Erin form the Georgina Golden Hawks got a hooking penalty. We all thought we had no chance of winning after this event. I was put on with "Fat *** Fifty Five", a fourteen year old girl who was bigger than a humpback whale. Man did she have it out for me too, just because I wasn't scared to hit her and the fact that I can withstand her arena shaking hits. With a minute left in the game me and Courtney began to head up the side of the boards. Fat *** Fifty Five came rushing at me, she didn't want the puck she wanted me on the ice in pain. Quickly I made an across ice pass to Courtney. I had no time to dodge the hit that was sprung my way. An huge shoulder cut into the middle of my neck leaving me gasping for air. Her fist firmly planted into my chest winding me even more. I could feel her force pushing on me so, like every other Hockey player I hit her back, hard. We were both sent spinning down towards the cold hard ice beneath us. As my head firmly smacked down against the hard surface I heard loud cheering. Courtney had scored the winning goal. My trainer made her way onto the ice. All I remember after that point was a pool of blood laying on the ice beside me and waking up in the Hospital an hour later. That's my story, sorry it isn't very exciting the only injuries I've had from Hockey are sprained wrist, ankles, elbows, broken fingers and concussions,

Its a little too NFLish for me.. I like that you sit for 5 when you fight if it would suck that you would litterally have to plan fight money into your cap space.. you also wouldnt be likely to see many people ever advance beyond being the fighter (like steve ott has done over the years) as they would be wasteing the owners money by not getting in the fights they are paid to be in.. btw.. you said poke holes...
