Does US Government have a Legal Case against Julian Assange?

In my opinion Julian Assange is being demonized because he brought to light the dirty laundry of US and other governments. This is what journalist do, dont they?. So if he is not the actual person who stole the documents in the first place how can they prosecute him aside from the sexual assault charge (which is actually disputable!)? What happened to the Freedom of Information act?

Thank you, finally an intelligent question about Assange & Wikileaks that addresses what journalism is about. The mainstream media are little better than government mouthpieces, spouting whatever propaganda they are given to parrot. In one or two scoops, Assange has revealed more real news than all the mainstream media combined. They should be ashamed of their compliance and gladhanding of the establishment.

And Assange cannot be prosecuted. He published the leaks on internet servers located around the world, not in the USA. Trust me, if the Homeland Security Nazis could have nabbed him, they would have done so by now.

I find it unbelievable that there are so many imbeciles in the USA who cannot see the value of exposing their own military's war crimes. Unless they think shooting up unarmed civilians & kids from an Apache is acceptable?

Don't be naive... it's not "dirty laundry."

This is what diplomacy is all about... it's been that way for years. Only children see this as somehow shocking.

    Regardless many naivety, it's damaging.

I don't know if they have a case against him but the person that gives classified documents to an enemy can face the death penalty. And those people have been executed before.

His efforts are protected under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, so there is no case unless some grandstanding politician tries to make one. It would be flimsy at best. It was tried with Daniel Elsberg in the famous Pentagon Papers case, but it got nowhere.

I am not sure. But I do know Mr Assange is no free speech hero. He is a leftist radical who hates the USA. He will never release any dirty secrets about Russia, China, Cuba, or any other nasty communist or socialist country. He and his sponsor George Soros wish to enslave the entire world into a one world communist government and must do all they can to destroy the USA which stands in their way. Julian is a world class jerk.

Men have been executed on far less evidence than the flimsy bit that exists against Mr. Assange - why do you think he's been hiding all this time?
