My daughter was just prescibed seroquel?

My daughter has not been sleeping at night and sleep walking so they prescribed this for her for the next 3 weeks to see if it helps with sleep. I was wondering if anything to look for or if anyone knows of a child or themselves taking it and how it affects them.

Update:

she is 7 yrs old

It's great the we Y!A users know better than your child's doctor, isn't it?

Yes, seroquel is a risky med. Yes, it can lead to high blood pressure (it is also linked with low blood pressure, like in my case). Yes, it is linked with an increased risk of diabetes. Yes, it is used for bipolar and schizophrenia...but that is just in high doses. In low doses, it is often used for sleep.

All of these are possible, but when this happens, most of the time it is with taking high doses (in the hundreds of mg)

In comparison to a lot of sleep meds, it's safe. She's only taking it for 3 weeks, so I highly doubt anything is going to happen.

My sister, my uncle and I have all taken/are taking seroquel. My sister and I took it when we were under 18 and it was great. It will definitely put her to sleep and allow her to stay asleep.

Your daughter might be thirsty (dry mouth is very common) or she could be a little dizzy when she stands. And she might be a bit hungrier.

Don't be scared off by what others have said--your doctor knows best.

No way in hell would I be giving seroquel to a 7 year old. As far as I can remember it is contraindicated for children so why dr would prescribe and antipsychotic for a child with isues with sleep & sleepwalking is beyond me.

taken directly from the information sheet I got with my seroquel:

    # Increased blood pressure has been reported in CHILDREN and TEENAGERS who use Seroquel. Children and teenagers should receive regular blood pressure checks while they use Seroquel.

    # Seroquel should be used with extreme caution in CHILDREN younger than 10 years old; safety and effectiveness in these children have not been confirmed.

It used as a treatment for schizophrenia or bipolar. It also puts you at higher risk of developing diabetes and it can cause suicidal thoughts in children & teenagers

I am taking it (not to sleep though), and it does make me very sleepy. Some time after taking it I become so tired I can't concentrate on anything nor resist going to sleep. I never got that feeling before taking Seroquel. I'd say that'd be good for your kid based on that, but some people before me said it can cause problems for children. So perhaps not.

Seroquel is NOT recommended for children, you don't say how old this "child" is. Seroquel will definitely make you sleep, the inmates at the correctional facility where i work LOVE Seroquel. I might add that it is a very expensive medication.

I was on it for a while during the day and at night. I called it my 'chill pill'. No side effects, just felt less wound up.
