Is it true that jews think christians believe in a totally different God?

Someone told me this and I don't know if it's true, is it? Why would they say that when it's clearly not the case?

Update:

Well you can some it up in one word Tradition. The Jews only believe in what they know because they refuse to believe in Jesus and keep looking for the Messiah he has been here and gone God’s word tell us not one thing was created without him the Jews don’t know it was the same Lord Jesus Christ who turned the water to blood in Egypt who passed over them the night of the first born in Egypt who lifted up the red sea in Egypt who wrote the ten commandments and who died for them on Calvary and Jesus said the Father and I are one.

It does seem pretty different when Christians talk about a 'triune God' or the Trinity. Our primary statement about our God is that God is One. It's so basic and integral to Judaism that the Christian version seems to run directly counter. I realise that Christians see it as being the same because they start with their version of the Jewish bible, but that is interpreted so very differently from Jewish understandings that we Jews are often left scratching our heads in bewilderment.

Perhaps you just have your conception and we have ours and neither of us can comprehend the enormity and are only seeing parts. But that doesn't make it OK for you to call us liars.

  • Here's the difference between what we believe and what Christians believe when it comes to God:

    G-d is One

One of the primary expressions of Jewish faith, recited twice daily in prayer, is the Shema, which begins "Hear, Israel: The L-rd is our G-d, The L-rd is one." This simple statement encompasses several different ideas:

There is only one G-d. No other being participated in the work of creation.

G-d is a unity. He is a single, whole, complete indivisible entity. He cannot be divided into parts or described by attributes. Any attempt to ascribe attributes to G-d is merely man's imperfect attempt to understand the infinite.

G-d is the only being to whom we should offer praise. The Shema can also be translated as "The L-rd is our G-d, The L-rd alone," meaning that no other is our G-d, and we should not pray to any other.

So you can see how the God we believe in is basically not the same as the God the Christians worship - We believe in one God; they believe in three combined to make one.

Yeah, it's like some of the others said. There are some Christian Jews which understand that Jesus was and is the Messiah. However, there are some Jews which do no believe that Jesus was the Messiah. That's why Jesus wept over Jerusalem and said how He would long to gather Jerusalem as a mother hen gathers her chick, but you would not have. Because you did not discern the coming of your Messiah. Jesus made a statement like that and it's been that way ever since for some Jews. The unbelieveing Jews of Jesus's day were looking for a Messiah who would be like a military leader who would come and conqueor their enemies. That's why they had such a problem with Jesus when He arrived on the scene. The Pharisees once told Him, "Look at you. You are not the Son of God. Jesus responded, "Stop judging by appearance and make a righteous judgment. He did not fit the expectation of what they were looking for. They were looking for the physical kingdom to be set up in Israel, but Jesus came to set up the spiritual Kingdom of God. So, still today, some Jews are looking for the Messiah who will come conqueor all of Israel's enemies in the physical sense and restore complete order to the world.

No, that's not true. Jewish people and Christians believe in the God of Moses. Jewish people are still looking for a Messiah. The exception are Jewish Christians. Not all Jews are Jewish Orthodox. This is a simplified version. You can learn more about the Jewish religion by googling and reading "Orthodox Judaism" on wikipedia.

I would actually say that it's the other way around. Most Christians don't even know Jesus was a Jew and that Christianity came from Judaism.

answer: i've got starred for my Jewish contacts. As I know it (and that i could be incorrect) - Messianic Jews have self assurance that Jesus is the messiah and that he became divine. it is in contradiction to the Jewish faith. That makes them Christians. Jesus did no longer fulfill the prophecies. He became supposedly of divine foundation - the messiah isn't. G-d can not grow to be human. Jesus is presented as a human sacrifice, taking on the sins of all and sundry - it is against Jewish teachings. The Messiah would be human and fulfill all of the prophecies in one life time - no 2nd coming. there is not any unique sin to be saved from. No probability of hell. See how Christianity is incompatible with Judaism? you won't be in a position to be Christian and Jewish on the comparable time. and there is not any Jewish bible. that's a Christian term. there is the Tanakh, no longer the previous testomony and no New testomony in Judaism. # # # If somebody does not have self assurance Jesus became divine, then he became in straightforward terms a prophet and not the messiah. He did no longer fulfill the prophecies. Christians justify worshipping him through fact they declare he will return and fulfill those he did no longer. If he became a prophet, he won't be lower back. meaning he could no longer be the messiah - divine or no longer. He did no longer fulfill the prophecies. If somebody believes Jesus became a prophet in straightforward terms, they had greater probable be a Muslim. Jews have not got self assurance he became a prophet the two. in the event that they think of of him in any respect that's frequently as a instructor. # # # Then I definitely have a question: does your Jewish bible have the recent testomony?
