I am indecisive on what I should join- Marine Corps Infantry or Army Airborne Infantry...thoughts?
Ok, before I get to my reasons I wanna give you a little background on my situation. I enlisted in the US Army and left for OSUT (as Infantry with Airborne Option) at Ft Benning July of 2009. I made it to week 6 and ended up getting an ELS due to unstable shoulder(s). I got home and started a very intense physical therapy schedule to get back up to par so I could re-enlist. My shoulders are no longer much of a problem and I can do pushups fine (pullups are still a b*tch but I can deal with pain). Both branches have told me they will accept me back in because I have such a high ASVAB/GT score. I understand that both of the branches require you to do pullups (Airborne requires you to do 8 dead hang, Marine Corps requires 20 for a perfect). The Army can offer me E-3 before I even leave for OSUT, the Marine Corps can offer me E-1...E-2 if I get 2 others to join under me. I just feel that this time around I want to join the Corps because I have realized how much more I want the title "Marine" over the title of "Paratrooper".
My brother, who was in the Marine Reserves for 4 years, told me he doesn't think I could handle it in the Corps. Then on the other hand, I was very disappointed how easy OSUT was up until the point where I was discharged. It wasn't super easy physically, but mentally I was expecting MUCH more of a challenge. Yes, you can say all you want about me not making it through, but it really wasn't a choice of my own. So I want your opinion on which branch you think would be best for me...
And please don't just say "Marines because they are bad*ss".
Thanks!

Dude OSUT was ******* easy compared to my life now in the 82nd. The first week I got to my unit i felt like I was gonna die and I constantly got 300's on the the pt test and still do. But trust me you might say you want **** to be more mentally harder but trust me you don't. It's a complete mind **** way worse than osut. No offense but your brother is in the reserves. But man it aint easy to be a paratrooper, ******* jumping sucks. We jump out at 800ft with almost 100lbs of **** on you so you hit ******* hard. But on the other side you get to jump out of cool ****. Like last week I got to jump out of a UH-60 Blackhawk. Scary as **** but it was hella fun. You can get promoted quicker in the Army especially infantry so that's a plus. My last deployment I was with the Marines and they ******* sucked. But it's your decision and not anyone elses. You just gotta know what your getting into on both sides.

Honestly, if you want an over-hyped ego and a damned title join the Marine Corps. If you want Airborne training attempt to join the Army Airborne.
As far as straight-leg Army infantry versus straight leg Marine Corps, it's the same bullcrap. You will ruckmarch a lot and get out with messed up knees. However, if you're in the it for the espirt de corps and the toughest men you can go for it. The only difference between Marine infantry and leg Army infantry is duty stations (Marines you might be on a ship; Army has different bases etc..), Marines focus more on drill and ceremony (foot-sailors, the "pretty Army"), different customs and courtesies. The Army you will see leaders with more experience, more training opportunities and you will get paid for what you do.
In the Army, you get promoted faster. In the Marine Corps, you get more responsibility faster, without the leadership schools or promotions (for example, you'll see fresh Lance Corporals and Corporals leading Team sized to Squad sized to sometimes even Platoon sized elements, whereas it takes more time in service in the Army to lead elements that high, but you get trained in the Warrior Leadership Course and you get promoted for your work.) Neither is better, it's just personal preference.

If you can, rehab your shoulder a bit more and try for the marines. I had a torn rotator cuff that took almost a year and a half to heal... but I could ALMOST score a perfect on marine corps pullup test (I can do 18 on a good day).
If you've got time, take your opportunity to rehab and turn it into a chance to get into top shape.
Good for your for testing your limits. But don't further injure yourself trying to get there before it's time.
If you don't have time to rehab, then probably Army.

lol. Your brother was in the reserves and said you couldn't handle it huh? Ask him how high the attrition rate was in Boot camp. If you sign the contract, your going to be a marine. My personal opinion I would say go airborne. Theres way more marines than airborne infantry anyway
