Could I possibly have ADD/ADHD?

Ok so I'm a 20 year old guy, and I have a suspicion I may have some sort of disorder.

My main issue is focus. Video games and things I thoroughly enjoy are no problem whatsoever. Any kind of work, excercise, etc that requires concentration is hard at times. I have always taken twice as long to do homework compared to other individuals, I've always been the guy that rushed and pleaded the teacher for 2 more seconds as I finished my tests. Not that I didn't know the answers, it was just that focus. I would finish a multiple choice section, short answer, and leave the whole back section blank from running out of time and get 80s because of how well I performed in the parts I had time for (this took place almost every test in every subject).

I'll describe my thoughts in detail: I'll be sitting doing work, and I'll get distracted by very minor things (e-mail, deals on the internet, random daily thoughts). I honestly cannot sit and do an hour of solid work without stopping and procrastinating a bit. Sometimes I'll get so caught up in whatever distraction I got caught up in that 2 hours will pass with 0 work done. While I actually do work, I find sometimes I have to read sentences twice because I read them too fast or without any thought. When people try to give me instructions it's sometimes hard to focus and remember what they said. I'm VERY forgetful.

My organization skills are limited, my room is always messy, my desk, etc. Scheduling is pretty much "whatever I'm doing that day." Never really plan ahead.

However, as a person, I find I'm just like the average joe in terms of politeness when speaking, I never speak too much (I'm actually quite reserved). Never really get out of control emotionally. One odd thing I find is I tend to play with my hair a lot when I do homework or a test. I think that has more to do with nerves than anything, but I have no idea.

Anyways, that's really all I have to say. The only reason I keep doubting I might have a problem is because I know a few friends with ADD/ADHD and I'm not as impulsive or lack restraint like some of them.

Sorry if you had to read my whole novel here, any advice welcome. Thanks.

My professional opinion would be that you probably don't have ADD/ADHD. Let me explain the reasons for my answer.

If you had serious concentration problems as you describe in school, for example, you would have concentration problems with everything, such as video games. You would not be able to sit through a whole movie, follow a deep conversation, or probably be able to keep a job.

What I would say is most likely the problem is, as you stated, you are not at all organized in your life and also seems that you may have a bit of an anxiety issue. These things alone can have a major impact on your life and if/how you get things accomplished.

You state yourself that you don't lack the restraint or social skills that others who are actually diagnosed do, so I wouldn't worry that much.

See your doctor for a thorough checkup and see what he has to say. This is all just my opinion, of course, so I hope all goes well for you.

Psychiatrists claim that a person needs a drug to combat their chemical imbalance in the brain which is causing a persons mental disorder. However, the concept that a brain-based, chemical imbalance underlies mental illness is false. As with all of psychiatric disease models, it has been thoroughly discredited by researchers. -Quakery exposed. Please dont waste your time with labels and so called disorders. They dont exist.

Turns out many people/parents are abusers. They are not trying to help you at all. They are tricking you. This goes for people at school as well. Words are abuse also, and bullies/parents abuse/ignoring can make children grow up with all types of so called mental Illnesses or turn them into abusers. They are hurt and pass it on.
