  • Constant hair pulling and scratching when I work or do something engaging?

    I'm a 22 year old male. Currently in university. Although I do attribute my habit of hairpulling to stress sometimes, I still do scratch nonstop and twirl my hair to the point where it can fall out. I do it without thinking and can't help it. It satisfies me and I don't know what to do about it. I've started to notice I'm losing hair and excessively shed in the shower. This has been going on for the past year and a half and my best friend who I trust 100% suggested I see someone about it.

    I have absolutely no money to afford a psych appointment, but have the Canadian health care system at my disposal. Do they deal with things like this?

    Where do I start? I may have other worrying symptoms but this is really getting out of hand.

  • Anxiety and Hairloss?

    Hi there,

    Recently I've come to terms with the fact I need to seek help. This is very embarrassing for me and I've been trying to tell myself I was just overreacting but I think I've crossed that line long ago.

    I'm known by my friends to be an overly anxious person. Small talk, my demeanor, tests, and other things that stress out normal people. However I feel like I get a bit overanxious, I try and avoid doing work or avoid certain conversational encounters, and even at times I feel like I panic a lot with things like exams in university.

    Recently I've been under more and more stress and it's been building up over the years. The past two years I noticed I started losing a lot of hair. This I thought to be normal, but I didn't really notice what I was doing to cause it. I started scratching my scalp and playing with my hair so violently at times that I was either pulling out hair or leaving scabs on my scalp causing more hairloss.

    Now I'm at a point where the hairloss is very noticeable. I can't hide it anymore and I don't know what to do.

    I'm very very tight with money so seeing a psych is out of the question for me and I don't think some "self tips on how to deal with anxiety" will help me.

    (Im canadian btw) Where do I go to seek help?

  • Question about Nietzsche's Genology on Morality?

    Nietzsche gives the Jewish as an example of the usurpation of noble morality to slave morality (very roughly when noble/high standing/intellectual good becomes evil, and the common or lowly becomes the good).

    Is there any examples of this in modern society?

    I've been thinking of the recent shift towards green technology and lifestyle as opposed to industrialization and otherwise non-green living. I don't know if that's interrelated enough with what Nietzsche is trying to get at though, and that's what I need to write about.

    Anyways, any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

  • How to cite this book for my essay?

    So I'm writing a slightly informal essay on Nietzsche's work.

    My professor said I can use any style of referencing I want as long as it's consistent.

    I'm only using one book as reference throughout the whole essay and adding in specific quotes here and there.

    What would be the easier way to cite all this?

  • How to reduce eye strain from constant computer use?

    Hey guys.

    My dad works for hours on end at home for his business on his computer.

    For the past few weeks he's gotten stys constantly, and some got badly infected. His eyes are always red and he complains about headaches sometimes.

    I want to get him something to reduce eyestrain. Maybe some monitor filters, some program that regulates lighting from the monitor, or eyewear to maybe help a bit.

    It really hurts to watch him be miserable, especially now that he's getting older.

    Thanks in advanced for the help! (PS. He already has medicated eyedrops from his doctor).

  • What statistical test do I use?

    Basically I have the muscle lenght of 5 individuals in one column, and the threshold voltage required to accomplish a muscle contraction in those individuals on the other.

    I want to see if there is a correlation between muscle length and the treshold voltage required. What statistical test would I use for that?

    Thank you in advanced.

  • How do I ask a doctor to rule out ADHD?

    I've basically been innatentive all my life and it's slowly been affecting my life, but has been kind of shadowed by how I've excelled in most aspects of my life.

    I've asked my parents before to have me tested for AD/HD, but they strongly refused, maybe because of my school performance and the fact that I wasn't hyperactive.

    Today I'm a 20 year old university student, and I still have the same spacing out, daydreams, inability to read more than a few lines without getting distracted, and terrible organization. My brain feels like a bee hive of information that I'm trying to sort out constantly. No history of stress, depression, or any other related psych problems.

    My problem is that I'm seeing a university DOCTOR who deals with psych problems. This doctor probably gets a lot of stressed students who waste her time, and I don't want get generalized with that bunch.

    How do I convince the doctor that this problem is serious, and to rule out the possibility of ADHD or any other disorder?

  • Should I go to the doctor?

    Last night, after drinking outside with my friends, I was going downstairs to eat. However, I slipped and hit the back of my head on hard wood, and I was suddenly looking up at the light on the roof wondering how everything happened, and layed there for 2-3 seconds until I realized where I was. I didn't black out or anything, but I don't recall exactly how I fell. I got up almost instantly, got my food I dropped, ate, and went to bed.

    What was weird though was that I heard a clear ringing in my head. Otherwise .. any diziness or similar symptoms could've been confused with the drinking I had done earlier.

    Today I've had a slight headache all day, and I feel really sensitive to light or loud noises.

    I'm almost 100% sure I had a concussion, but I'm no doctor and I don't really know if I should go see one. If it was a concussion, are there certain symptoms/circumstances were resting etc. will eventually help the symptoms go away?

    Seeing a doctor in my town (in Canada) will likely be about 6 hours of wait. I really don't want to go through that if it's not necessary.

    *(I've never had a concussion before)*

  • Question about one-way ANOVA?

    a) Can one-way ANOVAS can be negative

    b) If all sample means are equal, MST = 0

    c) The F-statistic can never be greater than MST.

    d) MSE can be negative.

    e) Mean squared test (MST) and mean squared error (MSE) will equal whenever the design is balanced.

    a) false.

    b) true (sum of difference^2 = 0)

    c) false, since MSE is a pooled-variance and we can get some numbers with a variance < 1

    d) false (the squaring removes the possibility of a negative value).

    e) ?

    I cannot figure out e)

  • Poisson Distribution problem in stats?

    The distribution of dandelions in a large meadow is approximately Poisson, with a mean of 4 dandelions per square meter. For a randomly selected one meter plot in this meadow:

    1) What is the probability there are more than 2 dandelions?

    2) Given there is at least one dandelion, what is the probability there are exactly three?

    3) What is the standard deviation of the number of dandelions in a square meter?

    I know how to find standard deviation, mean, probability etc. I just have no clue how to go about solving these questions. Could someone help me out? point me in the right direction?

    Thanks in advanced.

  • Expectation of Discrete Random Variables?

    For the next 3 questions:

    X is a random variable with μx = 8.7 and σx = 18.5

    Y is a random variable with μy = 14.9 and σy = 21.0

    X and Y are independent.

    1. What is the mean of X + Y?

    2. What is the standard deviation of X + Y?

    3. What is the standard deviation of X - Y?

    1. E(X + Y) = E(X) + E(Y) = 8.7 + 14.9 = 23.6

    23.6 / 2 = 11.8

    2. Var (X + Y) = Var (X) + Var (Y) -> COV = 0 since independant

    = 18.5^2 + 21.0^2 = 342.25 + 441 = 783.25

    SD = Sqrt(783.25) = 27.99

    3. I get a negative number following the same steps I used above, and obviously you can't square root a negative number. Am I doing something wrong?

    Anyways, am I doing these questions properly? Any help or suggestions would be AWESOME.

  • Statistics probability question?

    x | P(x)

    -5 | 0.05

    10 | 0.05

    50 | 0.40

    100 | 0.50

    Considering the above discrete probability distribution table, find P( X > 21 | X < 60).

    Now I know I should be using the conditional probability formula P(A|B) = P(A n B)/P(B), but I haven't dealt with a situation where A and B are in this "X > 21" form.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

  • Could I possibly have ADD/ADHD?

    Ok so I'm a 20 year old guy, and I have a suspicion I may have some sort of disorder.

    My main issue is focus. Video games and things I thoroughly enjoy are no problem whatsoever. Any kind of work, excercise, etc that requires concentration is hard at times. I have always taken twice as long to do homework compared to other individuals, I've always been the guy that rushed and pleaded the teacher for 2 more seconds as I finished my tests. Not that I didn't know the answers, it was just that focus. I would finish a multiple choice section, short answer, and leave the whole back section blank from running out of time and get 80s because of how well I performed in the parts I had time for (this took place almost every test in every subject).

    I'll describe my thoughts in detail: I'll be sitting doing work, and I'll get distracted by very minor things (e-mail, deals on the internet, random daily thoughts). I honestly cannot sit and do an hour of solid work without stopping and procrastinating a bit. Sometimes I'll get so caught up in whatever distraction I got caught up in that 2 hours will pass with 0 work done. While I actually do work, I find sometimes I have to read sentences twice because I read them too fast or without any thought. When people try to give me instructions it's sometimes hard to focus and remember what they said. I'm VERY forgetful.

    My organization skills are limited, my room is always messy, my desk, etc. Scheduling is pretty much "whatever I'm doing that day." Never really plan ahead.

    However, as a person, I find I'm just like the average joe in terms of politeness when speaking, I never speak too much (I'm actually quite reserved). Never really get out of control emotionally. One odd thing I find is I tend to play with my hair a lot when I do homework or a test. I think that has more to do with nerves than anything, but I have no idea.

    Anyways, that's really all I have to say. The only reason I keep doubting I might have a problem is because I know a few friends with ADD/ADHD and I'm not as impulsive or lack restraint like some of them.

    Sorry if you had to read my whole novel here, any advice welcome. Thanks.

  • Bernouille's Equation (Water through glass tube)?

    I've literally been going at this question for hours and it's the last one I need to finish.

    Here's a link to the diagram and question: http://img600.imageshack.us/img600/6932/tubequesti...

    Anyways, here's what I tried:

    P1 + 1/2(Rho)(v1)^2 + (Rho)(g)(y) = P2 + 1/2(Rho)(v2)^2 + (Rho)(g)(y) -> no change in y so term 3 is 0.

    Put v1 in terms of v2

    A1 = 1/10(A2)

    therefore v1 = 10(v2)

    P1 + 1/2(Rho)(10 x v2)^2 = P2 + 1/2(Rho)(v2)^2

    P1 + 1/2(1000)(3)^2 = 200000 + 1/2(1000)(.3)^2

    P1 = 200000 - 4455

    P1 = 195545 Pa

    Answer key says: 1.55x10^4 Pa

  • Finding the coefficient of friction of baseball player?

    A basebally player running with a speed of 9.00m/s slides into second base through a distance of 4.00m, find the coefficient of friction. His speed is zero when he touches the base.

    I have no idea what to do here. The formula we use is Fk = (uk)(N), but I see no other equations that could help with this.

    V^2 = Vo^2 + 2a (X - Xo)

    0 = 9.00^2 + 2a (4.00 - 0)

    -20.3 = 2a

    a = -10.1 m/s^2

    The acceleration is all I know so far. Help please.

  • Boat crossing river question?

    A boat can go at 10 m/s.

    a) in what direction (angle) must the motorboat be pointed to directly cross the river flowing 3.0m/s east.

    b) what is the velocity of the boat directly across?

    a) I used pythagorean theorem: Tan(thetha) = 3/10 -> (Theta) = tan^-1(0.3) = 16.7 degrees

    but the answer says the angle is 17.5 and I only get that if used sin instead of tan.

    b) since there's a right angle I used the pythagorean theorem to get 10.4m but that's about all I got.
