what would make my chestnuts difficult to peel? chestnut seems to be stuck to the shell. i forgot to soak?

them. could that be the reason or is it possible i didn't cook them long enough. my book said twenty minutes in a four hundred degree oven, preheated.

    Hi, One reason could be that they are hard to peel would be if you didn't cut a slice in them. If you did then they most probably need further cooking. I hope this helps,all the best. Rab

    I boil them in hot water, then peel. Of course, when they really stick they're probably not very fresh. Good luck!
