Cosigner and lease question?

Alright, I put my signature on a lease with 3 other people. There was a 5th person coming to sign on a later date. But on the day when us, the first 4, signed the lease, the other party (landlord) didn't sign it yet, likely waiting for the final person.

After I put my signature down, they asked for a cosigner. AFTER. If I cannot come up with a cosigner, am I still somehow bound to this lease? Does it depend if the landlord later signed it?

If the landlord is requiring a cosigner before he signs off on the lease, then that means you don't actually have an actual legal document yet because only the tenants have signed it. You aren't bound by the lease until both parties (tenants and landlords) have signed it. After a lease is signed by both parties, adding anything or changing anything to that original lease must be agreed upon by ALL parties to that lease. Failure to have all parties agree to any amendments to the original lease means that the amendments aren't accepted and do not form part of that original lease.

Since you are unclear about all this, simply contact the landlord and ask him if he would still like a cosigner. If they do require one, I don't recommend YOU having the cosigner unless you know these other tenants VERY well and know that they won't screw you over and put you in a messy situation (if any of you fail to pay, the landlord has a legal right to go after the cosigner for any late rent etc).

Who is "they" you say is asking for a cosigner? If it is the landlord, asking for a cosigner, speak to him or her for further information.

Why not just have a business like discussion with whomever is telling you this is necessary and find out the total story.

Question is unclear so unable to give a definitive answer.

Co signing any rfile is this form of actually undesirable concept. Why could you desire to place anybody who cares approximately you in probability. not purely that, it relatively leaves the door open for straining and tearing aside a relationship could you fail to fulfill your area of the best deal. you have all purpose of paying each thing, yet i could probability a wager, that a extensive share of any hire agreements, or own loan agreements are negated by the preliminary borrower, and then the cosigner is left to foot the bill, and left with sore thoughts. i could propose that inspite of the certainty that the possibility exists, the belief is damaging, no depend what the convenience is to you.
