Why is suicide is against the law?

Well 1st when a person dies he/she goes to hell, we all go to hell when we die, since hell (sheol) is mans common grave. Also suicide is not against the law, it's just not the thing to do.

Suicide is against the law. What can they do to you? Insurance companies, for one, will not pay your benefits.

What really should be against the law and carry a heavy penalty is "assisted suicide". The assistant should be considered a murderer, subject to the same penalty as a murderer.

Because most suicides are the result of mental illness. Not all, but most.

And if you attempt and fail, you're rarely given jail as a punishment -- you're given psychological treatment, which sometimes is given by forced confinement in a mental health facility.

If ya fail, they don't throw you in jail but have you involuntarily committed.

The only hell involved is the hell your family and friends are left with after the fact.

Suicide is illegal because if you are dead, then there will be one less person to collect taxes from. As for punishment, you will be locked in a holding cell for a lengthy time appropriate for your crime.

Because the suicider might have owed money to some people. Then the creditor(s) cannot collect and cannot even get the money from his relatives.

I don't know. I guess it's because it's written in the Bible that it's wrong. And legal systems worldwide are based on the Bible/Qur'an depending on wherever you're talking about. Such as do not kill. If it wasn't illegal I'd just stab everybody I meet because they annoy me; however it's written in the Bible to not murder; so therefore THAT is echoed in your legal system :)

It's to discourage folks from committing suicide.

The law is an ***.

There are no penalties when you are dead.

Because somebody has to clean up the mess.
