In this economy, how much are average Grandparents spending on Grandchildren gifts?

The cost of everything is going up. Income is remaining fixed.

How much money should be spent on each Grandchild for Christmas gifts?

What are you spending?

Update:

I KNOW it is not my job to fulfill their whims or whatever. When we first

started giving them lots, we budgeted about $400.00 on each Grandchild,

Then we had to go to $300 per Grand. when I retired.

The parents did not have much in those days. Now we Grandparents are

retired and the $200, each, this year has stressed our own budget. I know we

need an adjustment downward for next year. I am asking what others give.

The Grandchildren are older, now, so they can understand that cutbacks are

not put downs.

Update 2:

We have six Grands.

I have 12 grandchildren, so, I try to keep it to about

$25.00 a child. I buy all year long to be able to manage them all. It always ends up a great Christmas. Even if I couldn't get them a thing, we would all be together and that's the main thing. Everyone is together and healthy.

Depends on how many you have,I have a friend who only spends 5$ each.Really its the thought that counts.Imagine some people have 10 grand kids or more. Its not your job to fulfill their every whim anyway. You could buy items to do things together with them.I buy art supplies for my Granddaughter so we can paint together.

I know my parents spent $75 for a gift for a gift for both of my kids together, and then spent $20 for an individual gift for each.
