What is the most disappointing recipe you have ever tried, that turned out terribly,?

I don't mean like a cooking disaster, where you forgot to add something, or where you burned something; I mean something you anticipated to turn out delicious and it turned out practically

unpalatable!

Update:

I, myself, tried to make a menu of new recipes, once. The entree was called "Beef Tips and Noodles". The vegetable was Lemon-Basil Carrots, and there was a salad called Cucumber Slices with Dill...The Beef Tips were tough as shoe leather, the carrots didn't taste quite like I thought they

should...but it seems like the Cucumber Slices w/Dill was the only thing that anybody would eat!

Spaghetti with a ground turkey meat sauce.

I won't qualify this as a true ingredient mishap because it was not specified that I should have used 85/15 ground turkey. I used Jennie-O extra lean ground turkey breast and what makes it worse it that I was trying to prove to my then boyfriend that it would taste just as good as ground beef.

Well, imagine the driest turkey or chicken breast that you have ever tried to swallow finely grated into a sauce that I had slaved over for hours peeling and de-seeding tomatoes lol.

It was bizarre, impossible to catch anything but pasta to chew, hit your throat kind of funny, and left a scattering of meat in your mouth that needed to be washed down with the drink. After about 5 minutes of effort and a laugh fest, I made a quick shrimp scampi-type topping for the pasta.

I have since resolved the problem by using a ground turkey with some fat in it (hence the 85/15), but I think I may have permanently scarred the ex against ground turkey.

There's the recipe that went straight from the stove to the garbage...sort of a chicken fillet roll-up with cheese and (ack!) unfortunately, raspberry. The only thing worse than the way it looked when it was 'done' was the way it smelled and tasted. To this day, we call that dish, Chicken New Jersey.

I was younger, not been married too long. Had made a tuna casserole, that was very tasty. Invited company over and had the bright idea of making but making it a seafood casserole. It was so bad that we and out guest decided to go out to eat. And the dog wouldn't even eat any of it. Need less to say , I now always try out cooking experiments before I invite guest.

A root vegetable cobbler. It was meant as a side dish. It called for turnips, potatoes, carrots and onions. I didn't realize that a) I hate turnips (this was my first attempt to eat them) and b) the awfulness of the turnips would contaminate every other vegetable in the cobbler so you couldn't even salvage the potatoes.

Dirt chicken with cilantro. I love Cilantro, and what I call dirt chicken is when you build a fire, let it burn down, dig a hole, rebuild the fire in the hole, let it burn down, then bury chicken pieces wrapped in alum foil on a cookie sheet or other steel surface, covering them with the hot dirt and coals. Rebuild fire again, go fishing for a couple of hours, come back dig it up, and YUM!!! Once, I included Cilantro in the pack of chicken pieces, (dirt chicken good, Cilantro good), and when I dug it up and opened the package, it was horrible. Smelled horrible, tasted horrible.
