Why do people assume the worst?

Sure, the details around Cam Newton seem fishy, but can anyone truly prove that he was aware of his father's action? If so, please fill me in.

He was in possession of a stolen laptop, yes. He has spoken publicly about his mistake, and this has been expunged from his record.

Reports of cheating - but no proof, since it is illegal, I am aware of that. Are you completely sure that he cheated? If so, fill me in again.

Kicked out of Florida - no. He transferred so he could play as a starter, as he, his lawyer, and Urban Meyer have all stated.

What happened to the American ideal of innocent until proven guilty?

Also, as a disclaimer, I am not saying he is innocent or guilty, my point is that he does not deserve all the scrutiny that he is being given without proper evidence.

there are many cases in which an athlete was accused of something (and wasn't charged) and people assume that they did the thing they were accused of. for example, back in 2000 Ray Lewis was accused of shooting someone. never charged, however most people assume that he killed someone. (I am not sure when) Kobe Bryant was once accused of sexually assaulting a woman. never charged. that one is a bit more controversial, but still some people believe he did. Ben Roethlisberger was accused of sexually assaulting someone. there are also dozens of other accusations like this. Brett Favre and Cam Newton are examples. people believe what they do for many reasons, some because they actually did research and the research shows that it is obvious the person did or didn't. some simply because they have a bias against of for the person. many times this happens and people make assumptions before they do research.

all the before mentioned cases, as is this one, is simply a case of money. money makes trials and glory. kobe bryant, even if wrongfully accused, had to pay a multi-million dollar settlement to his self-claimed victim, as did ben roethlisberger and brett favre. there are other cases, when you have money, as did ray lewis, and you settle for the betterment of your behalf upon the other party. all sports and this world is too revolved around money.
