How to alleviate soreness from ukemi?

So, I worked for a few hours today with a friend doing Tanto Ju Nana Hon in preparation for her black belt test. It was the first time I had done it. I am really sore and tense in my shoulders. How do I get rid of it?

Stiff and sore is going to be your companion in martial art. Hard workouts make you sore. You can help it by moving it, rubbing something like A535 or tiger Balm on it. Having it massaged also will help, especially if done before the soreness sets in. It is lactic acid buildup that is the cause of this, and you must dissipate the acid for the soreness to go away.

A hot tub works great. Next best thing a hot soak in the tub, a massage and/or muscle rub for your shoulders. If it is really, really painful to the point that you can not move Doans (magnesium salicylate) works. But that should be your last resort.
