Is it bad to move a laptop computer around while it's running?

I heard that it can cause damage to the hard drive. If thats the case, what is the best way to handle a laptop that will prevent damage to the hard drive or other components in the computer?

If you purchased a New Toshiba, and you moved the laptop while it was on, a notification would pop up informing you that the laptop has sensed that it is in motion, and it has parked the drive head to avoid damaging the surface of the platters. So at least one computer company is being proactive to protect the hard drive within a laptop in motion.

What is all that information worth? Well, it tells you that it *CAN* be bad to move a laptop while it is running... not necessarily that it is *ALWAYS* bad to move the laptop while it is running. See the difference? No? Is it easier to spill a glass of water filled to the rim while you are in motion, or standing still? Will you *ALWAYS* spill a glass of water that is filled to the rim, if you are in motion?

So, if you are being cautious, then you either purchase a laptop with the technology to protect the drive if the unit is moved, or you always shut down/hibernate/suspend the laptop before moving it.

I Think, there is no problem unless you've dropped your laptop or bumped with walls. Honestly, I recommend you to Stand By your laptop and then move it to the another place then again resume windows. But always remember, don't shake your laptop frequently. It would harm your Hard Disk (Though many notebooks have HDD with Anti-Shock technology, but still exercise precaution)
