When will people start seeing Black women as women, who happen to be Black?

I care more about my femininity than my "blackness". I think too many Black females are too caught up in representing our "Blackness" and it compromises our femininity. I'm happy to be a girl, I love being a girl and I don't like how I feel society treats us as less than other women. I think its because too many in America see "Black" as masculine because Black men create a lot of the Black stereotypes and stuff, (violent/athletic/"big" - the average Black girl in America is shorter than White women, but we're stereotyped as big and tall apparently??? weird) so with Black women it seems to throw us in the same category? That's disgusting to me. I'm a girly girl and I'm sick of hearing that Black women are masculine or whatever. I've got my mom's body - 36C-23-36, and is that not feminine? I love how I look (& so have others), so its odd. The stereotypes of Black females as aggressive in no way represent all of us, or even most. None of the women in my family are so stereotypical (well, none of my family has ever lived in a "ghetto", we're from the rural, small town south).

So anyway, it just bothers me that the stereotypes of Black women follow those of our men more than us, I am a woman (or girl, I'm not very old, so Idk, lol), and I love being a woman. I feel Black women in America have never enjoyed the rights or respect that women have historically been given at all, and that's sad.

Oh, and I'm judging more by what I've seen online, because I don't know anyone in reality who has ever said Black women are manly, that's psychotic, but online people do and its so weird.

It's because a lot of Black American women see themselves (like you said) as their "race" first.

I have never seen other Black women see themselves as their skin color first, it really ruins it for the rest of Black American women who see themselves as women first.

I know it's a big stereotype because I have Black girlfriends and they are not fat, loud or anywhere near masculine, in fact, they are slim to skinny, quiet and very feminine and girly so the stereotype is really stupid.

I know what you mean! I'm only going to be 5'3. I'm educated and all, set on being a lawyer/politician. You might have to experience Europe. European men aren't familiar with the stereotypes and love black women! Try Serbia!

I think it will happen in time, just hang in there.

What you are talking about is the bad way generalizations can be used, and it seems you feel discriminated against. Those damned lesbians (feminists), have taken away from the fight of black people to stomp out discrimination against themselves-- real discrimination-- and that is disgusting, since black men and women have been treated horribly and we still need to focus on how we can help the black community, instead of pandering to a bunch of lying, man-hating lesbians that care as little for blacks as they do for men.

Black women can be very aggressive and belligerent, but I think that is more to do with culture than any real difference between blacks and any other race.

    SIgh,

    Black is a colour

    White is a colour

Being a women means you have two special parts

and a men has some different ones,

I don't see why we all need to fight and discriminate over our bodies, and accept our minds and personalities.

Black as more masculine? seriously i have always thought black women were prettier than us white women because of the prominent features you rarely see naturally in white women...

Black women usually have more curves without being considered fat...white women rarely have those type of curves... we are usually either slender with curves but nothing flashy... or we are just fat.

Am i jealous? No not really, i am curvy enough to keep my husband happy... and i have no desire to attract men i have no intention of being with.

People who say black women look masculine are usually either fat and saggy or skinny and bony...

    And Jealous!

I think it's a good thing to know your heritage and be proud of it. That applies to anyone.

But, when the most vocal of whatever group you belong to, chooses to highlight and encourage what makes it different rather than allowing itself to be mainstreamed, then people will see the whole group defined by whatever the most vocal define it as and the rest of the group tends to form itself to that opinion as well.

Wow--ok, so in a twisted way, I feel better.

Most of the guys on here who are such prics toward women ["feminists"] are also racist fkwads.

Jeez, you guys suck, I mean, really. Just go crawl back on your holes.

    >>>but online people do and its so weird.

    Uh.

    It's the internet.

People can say what they want.

    Take Jesus Christo for instance.

I doubt anyone would say that to someone's face in real life.
