What is Morals?????????

Apart from God's standard of moral law code ( what is good and what is evil ) we are left with human opinions about it.

Morality (from the Latin moralities "manner, character, proper behavior") is a sense of behavioral conduct that differentiates intentions, decisions, and actions between those that are good (or right) and bad (or wrong). A moral code is a system of morality (for example, according to a particular philosophy, religion, culture, etc.) and a moral is any one practice or teaching within a moral code. Immorality is the active opposition to morality, while amorality is variously defined as an unawareness of, indifference toward, or disbelief in any set of moral standards or principles

Morals are doing what is right.

The cultures of the world all have codes of conduct, even the ancient ones, and many of these codes predate the writing of the various books of the Bible and almost all predate each cultures first exposure to the Bible.

Where did the Greek Philosophers gain their insights? Did Socrates have no morals? Was Pythagoras lost? Confucius? Buddha? The American tribes? Eskimos?

Much of what is contained in the Old Testament is simply the conduct codes of the ancient Middle East. Some of these codes are commonly found in cultures all over the world, such as the prohibition against murder, but many are unique to the region and were never adopted by anyone else, like the prohibitions against eating pork or working on Saturday. Many are tribal rules, such as the requirement for a man to marry and have children with his brother's widow in order to ensure the survival of the tribe. Much of the New Testament is a reinterpretation of the older Biblical laws from the perspective of a culture that had been exposed to Greek and Roman thought for several centuries.

We have access to thousands of years of religion, history, philosophy, ethics and sociology from all over the world. We can see what worked well, and what didn't work so well, and we acknowledge that many things should never be allowed to happen again, such as genocides, witch burnings and Inquisitions. We do not believe that any group or culture has had all of the answers, and we refuse to be tied to laws that should be abandoned and rules that do not work. Claiming to have all of the answers is a dangerous game, and claiming to be the "One True Path" has led to some of the most horrific abuses and tragedies in human history.

One of the most favorite words people use is the word freedom. It is mostly used in politics since it attracts so many and loved by many. It is something to be perfected. Freedom perfected is when the man himself becomes truly free.

Freedom's obligation is to make man truly free. Many have made a caricature of the word freedom. Freedom is not doing whatever you choose. Freedom is given so that a person has a chance to be good. Goodness however, is not subjective, but objective. In other words, it's not a person doing what he feels is good, but rather, doing what is truly good, such as doing virtuous acts.

If moral values were not objective, then we can't condemn an evil act. Condemning evil actions shows that we presuppose an objective standard to which people apply. To abuse freedom and do evil acts would make you lose your freedom. The more evil actions you do the less freedom you would get.

For example, evil people go to jail or even lose their life since they need to be kept out from the public because we know they can't be trusted when they are free. This is because we ought to do what is right with our freedom.

Freedom is in itself good. However, it is imperfect. A good will followed by a good action perfects the free will. Actions then become a habit and would eventually build a character. This is true for either a good will or a bad will. For example, a person who consents to a bad will, like doing drugs, would make that action a habit and would eventually become a drug addict. However, a person who consents to a good will, like doing virtuous acts, would act upon it, and will make it a habit, and would eventually become a virtuous person. A person who is virtuous is one who is truly free and also happy.

Basically, they're a code of behavior-based values. One who is moral is generally known as a "good person."

They died out millions of years ago during the late Jurassic period. Don't worry about them.
