Why are medieval/sword movies so popular?

Something about the action draws people to them,. Action is big, it releases tension that may have been locked up within that person. They may imagine the are the hero or heroine defeating whom they see to be the "bad guys" or whom they wish to defeat but do not have the guts to do so in real life. Also it's not icky and common like romance movies. It's also fairly unisex so both males and females can sit through it comfortably. You can't imagine a man willingly (with mates,other male mates) wanting to sit through a teen chick flick like Easy A which is currently showing without going with a girlfriend.

They just look cool, most of the time. Any movie that has to do with war is almost instantly popular.

its easy to bomb someone, we see it everday, its all over the news, a kid could learn how to use a missile system i bet. kids use. it takes alot more then a bomb to storm a castle, with arrows flying at your head. to crush down that gate knowing theres burning oil waiting for you, to charge a feild when your out numbered 2-1 takes things people today dont have anymore.

To let out your anger. You imagine someone you hate as the guy getting their head chopped off.

I enjoy them. I was born late.
