Why were liberals upset about giving up freedom for safety by opposing wire tapping?
But are OK with the government taking away your freedom to choose whether or not to buy health insurance?
OK....I get it. It's OK to give up your freedom because health care is good for you.

Because I don't want the government listening in on me having phone-sex with my girlfriend.

Most "liberals" wanted a single payer health plan, not this system which was first introduced in 1993 by Republicans in response to Hillary Clinton's health plan. I personally didn't like it then, and don't like it now either. Having said that, your question is a non sequitur. Getting spied on by the government is much different than a legal obligation to buy health insurance. It's a big stretch to connect the two.
Right now there is less freedom in health care because of the sheer profit margins of the health insurance companies. Many people with insurance will not get preventative testing because it is unaffordable. Believe it or not, in a single payer system, you actually have more opportunity to choose your doctor because nobody gets preferential treatment. When you do not have equality, you are not free.

Had the neo-cons not dragged their feet, bleating and crying, in opposition to every issue dealing with health care, the provision might not have been needed. It became a choice of either or. Health care is for the common good, wire tapping is for neo-con building.

I didn't like the mandate but it's hardly a big deal if you have to buy health insurance. It doesn't compare to wire tapping.

They weren't. No one liked the mandate, expect health insurance companies.
