Will she get tax credits?

My friend is expecting a baby in march. Shes expecting to get the Maternity Grant of £500 but im not sure she'll get it.

She works full time and gets no benefits. Normally new parents get around this by getting child tax credits after the baby is born BUT she is planning to stay with her parents who both earn high amounts. I cant see her being entitled to tax credits?

Working tax credits and childcare tax credits are based on the total income

of your friend and her partner.

You don't say whether she is intending on returning to work, or if she's getting any wages from her employer while she is on Maternity Leave .

She can apply online when her child is born, and find out if she qualifies

  • Yes, she probably will, Tax Credits do not take into account her parents' income.

Likewise if she isn't going to get Maternity Allowance she can claim Income Support for herself as well before she goes back to work.
