Grandad in last stage of life and being denied water?!?
Ok, basicall my grandad has reached the final stages of lung cancer, hes on oxygen constantly and is being sedated (when the nurses can be bothered to come and top it up) however they are denying him water, he hasnt has any liquid for 3 days. Hes not allowed a drip. We asked about it today, and were told that liquids would make him worse, and then that keeping him hydrated would prolong his suffering, which seems a bit hypocritical. Hes asking for water when his sedation wears off and we can do nothing. it seems to me like they are making him die of thirst rather then his cancer, and its worse that hes fully aware hes thirsty. Surely this isnt right?! Hes also not eaten in several days so is recieving no form of hydration or nutrition....
5 AnswersCancer9 years agopink zebra danios.....?
I aquired some pink zebra danios today. as far as my research goes, there is no such thing and these are in fact glofish. They arent dyed, that is pretty obvious and they look exactly like the pictures of glofish. Just wondering if any fish experts can enlighten me as to what they actually are, as far as i know glofish are illegal in the UK. Also id like to know if theirs a way to tell the difference in gender, there are differences present. I love to breed and have a full of baby platies, swordtails, gourami, kribensis and even have had a spawning from my cardinal tetras which are meant to be near impossible, so would love to add the danios to my reseme. thanks for reading!!
2 AnswersFish9 years agowould this be an emergency appointment?
Guys might wanna go back here lol
but to cut a long story short for a couple of months ive had a solidish lump on my cervix, im pretty darn sure my coil has moved. I'm not in any pain and to me thats the main thing which constitutes an emergency. I would now like to get it sorted sooner then later but dont like taking spaces which could go to someone more in need
1 AnswerWomen's Health9 years agoFish suddenly keep dying...?
my last fish related was a little vague so here goes...
i got a 150l tank in sept, cycled it for a week and added a few platys to help cycle further.
since then ive added more fish and most of them do ok, a few of them drop off here and there but i always put it down to bad stock.
(5 cardinals, 3 bettas, about 10 platys, a guppy, a molly, 3 different catfish, a cory, 2 rams, a swordtail)
In the last week or so something has struck my tank. Ive lost a molly, a cardinal tetra, 2 female bettas, a male betta, 2 minnows,
I had my water tested a week ago, as soon as the first one died, and it all came back 100% clear.
I dont need a lecture on my fish choices, I have always added my fish one by one or in pairs and monitered closely (my male betta swam right past my huge male blue guppy and didnt think twice so they arent all bad), and they had all been doing fine in the water until this. The only thing thats changed in my tank is a couple of new fish which are doing fine (which is odd since they are meant to be sensitive) and some floating weed which i bought. could something have been on that?
Ive done a water change, and started on a course of bacterial treatment, after which will be fungal treatment as ive noticed whitespot AGAIN.
I dunno....any ideas?
9 AnswersFish9 years agoNo DSS.....give me a hand!!!?
We are looking at private renting...most properties seem to say no DSS. Does this apply to anyone whos eligible to housing benefit no matter what the circimstance? My husband works fulltime and is on a little over minimum wage, and Im a fulltime mum so we dont rely on benefits whatsoever but would get help with rent!!
5 AnswersRenting & Real Estate9 years agoConstant bad luck with fish...?
Starting to give up hope that I'll ever have a fish that lasts more then a couple of months. Had my 150ltr tank since september. obviously is now fully cycled. seems as soon as I add fish, more die! This morning ive lost a molly, my two female bettas, and a cardinal tetra. I noticed the tetra had a white saddle and the bettas faces had completely lost color, so ive put it down to an infection. So am not treating for all fungal and bacterial problems imaginable!!! Will I ever get a happy healthy tank?! Anyone had similar experiences?
11 AnswersFish9 years agoLumps in breastmilk causing pain?
Ive been breastfeeding my son for 15 weeks. For the past few weeks I've been getting excruciating sharp stabbing pains deep in my left breast for a few hours after feeding. Some days it will be after each feed, other days there will be no pain at all. Occasionally my nipple really stings too when touched, as if being poked by a needle. However if i feed again from that side, the pain in the nipple goes!
I was treated for thrush with cream and a tablet, and little one was given mouth drops, however i don't think it ever was thrush.
When I express I sometimes get lumps in the milk, like fat that has clumped up. I have no idea what this is. But I'm wondering if this could be causing the pain. The lumps travelling toward the nipple and getting lodged somewhere, and being released by the next feed? I have no idea really, its just a theory.
Any advice or experience would be helpful, I will be seeing my health visitor at the weighing clinic tomorrow but in the meantime....
5 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoBaby will not sleep in cot?
My 1 week old son will not sleep in his cot at night. If I put him in it while awake, he'll scream the place down for half an hour til he's tired himself out. Tried waiting until he's nursed and in a nice deep sleep and putting him in, but he wakes up straight away and its back to square one. He's fine if he's put into his bouncer chair and doesnt wake?. Tried making it more comfy by putting a thick blanket under him.
I've been giving in and letting him sleep in the bed with me at night after a feed, but know its a habit i need to get out of. Any tips? My daughter was totallyy different and slept solidly in her cot from about 3 days old.
7 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoWhat to do about broken tooth?
Broke one of my back teeth last night while eating a toffee. Not a massive amouth of damage i dont think, just one of the quarters broke away pretty much level with my gum.
It didn't hurt a single bit, and still doesn't, but has left a very sharp edge. I was told that I can't get emergency treatment because I'm not in pain, and that I'd have to go on a waiting list to register with a NHS dentist. My registration appointment is 2 weeks away, the first appointment they had available, and one where they dont actually do anything anyway.
This is a real pain in the *** in itself, as I'm due a baby a couple of days after this appointment!!! So basicallly, I'm not going to be able to get anything done until a few weeks after baby is here, I don't think I'll be up for dental surgery right away!!!
Is there anything I can do or get to remove the sharp edge, or an alternative to waiting weeks to get it seen to??

6 AnswersInsurance1 decade agoWill she get tax credits?
My friend is expecting a baby in march. Shes expecting to get the Maternity Grant of £500 but im not sure she'll get it.
She works full time and gets no benefits. Normally new parents get around this by getting child tax credits after the baby is born BUT she is planning to stay with her parents who both earn high amounts. I cant see her being entitled to tax credits?

7 AnswersCredit1 decade agocan someone explain credit cards?
I'm hoping my partner might get a credit card so i can pay my car insurance premium in a lump sum.
I'll have enough money after a couple of months to pay off the balance.
if the balance transfer rate is 0% for 16 months will i be able to pay off the credit card without any interest on the amount?
not sure if the amount used has to be paid off within the month or if you get charged for any remaining debt at the end of the month if that makes sense?
6 AnswersCredit1 decade agoGear stick wobbly when in gear?
had a starter motor replaced recently, now that the car is working i noticed right away theres alot of play with the gear stick when in gear, and for that matter when in neutral. Has something been missed when putting the car back together? Ive seen posts about a spring that keeps it all tight to the right or something? cars a daewoo matiz.
2 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoOk to feel like this?
ok basically my boyfriend just text me saying a girlfriend from his past wants to meet up for a chat later.
I do trust him, but i do not trust her. I let him get in touch with her once before, and they met up for a chat and even went out for a day out, taking our daughter with them and leaving me at home. Sure enough i found texts from her saying she wanted him back etc etc, when she came round again i literally chased her off.
I know its fine to have friends of the opposite sex, i have a couple of male friends, but my boyfriend is also friends with them, and he knows they arent my type, whereas ive never met this girl, shes pretty, slim, has a good job, pretty much everything i dont feel right now being 6 months pregnant.
Ive said he can meet her on the basis that as soon as theres any sign of funny business from either of them there will be hell to pay.
I want to be fair and allow him the chance to have more friends, but it just feels like a constant kick in the guts.
Am i wise in allowing them to meet?
8 AnswersFriends1 decade agoCar immobiliser problem, keys?
Ok so after running my battery dead by sitting in the car with the radio on for too long, I got some fellas to bump start it for me (push it along and pop out the clutch) and so i made it home. When I got home i tried to start the car again, just to see if the battery would need an overnight charge. Got no response from anything except the lights and wipers.
Had the starter motor refurbished and still no change so that was a waste of money. After leaving it for a few hours tried again and could hear the charge to the starter.
Got an auto electrician out to remap or whatever the immobiliser, as the light had been staying on while trying the ignition. Now when the key is turned, it chuggs, but doesnt quite catch the engine if you understand what i mean? and the immobiliser is flashing.
Does it sound like the key may need reprogramming?
the car is a 2001 daewoo matiz, im not sure what the immobiliser does on this particular car. But im presuming its stopped the fuel flow.
1 AnswerMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoDaewoo matiz trouble?
Ok after a bump start my 2001 daewoo matiz died, no response from anything except the lights, wipers etc. Starter motor has been remanufactured, ECU has been remapped as immobiliser light was on constant when we tried to start. Now getting a response from the starter motor and the immobiliser light is flashing as it should, but car still wont start, even though its trying. Never had any problems or any warning of any problems before this. Any ideas?
2 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agobreastfeeding experiences?
I breastfed my daughter for about a week before it got far too painful and i had to switch to formula. I put it down to being young and not quite fully developed myself, mixed with a fear of asking for help. I want to breastfeed my next, and am determined to do so, even if it near kills me lol. My sister and mum both breastfed their children successfully, and both admitted there were many tears due to pain.
I wonder if midwives are full of crap when they say pain is due to bad positioning/latching.
Has anyone ever had a totally painfree experience with breastfeeding their children?
I was told my positioning was fine, but still ended up with bleeding torn nipples within days, i really would love to avoid that this time!!
9 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoCar starter motor or something else?
OK after draining the battery by sitting in the car with the radio and heaters on, i got it bump started (NOT JUMP started, BUMP started, where you push it and it helps the engine turn) Once we got home, i tried to start the car and got no response from the engine or starter motor. The lights, radio, wipers etc all worked and even after charging the battery (overnight on an external charger) still got nothing more. To me, it doesnt seem like the key is turning far enough, it stops dead halfway between the 2nd and 3rd postion, but maybe im wrong, i just remember it feeling like a sponge when im actually starting the engine. Ive had a friend out whos a mechanic, and he says its the starter motor, which has now been taken out and remanufactured. I watched him test it with his jump leads, and it seemed to work fine, but hey, hes meant to be the expert. however i thought it was very rare for the starter to just stop responding, normally they give a warning, and there was no warning. His other explanation is the alternator....but the battery held its charge fine after the bump start. I do wonder wether mechanics ever actually have a clue, or just trial and error until they figure out the problem. Luckily im not paying him, or i'll be severely hacked off if it wasnt the starter motor.
Any ideas, or thoughts or anything.
The car is a manual, so its got nothing to do with not being in park.
6 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agopart time vs full time education?
how is it you can gain a level 3 qualification in health and social care part time, in 35 weeks doing 3 hours a week, but if you go full time it takes 2 years? All i can think is that they must actually TEACH you something....
