Fish suddenly keep dying...?

my last fish related was a little vague so here goes...

i got a 150l tank in sept, cycled it for a week and added a few platys to help cycle further.

since then ive added more fish and most of them do ok, a few of them drop off here and there but i always put it down to bad stock.

(5 cardinals, 3 bettas, about 10 platys, a guppy, a molly, 3 different catfish, a cory, 2 rams, a swordtail)

In the last week or so something has struck my tank. Ive lost a molly, a cardinal tetra, 2 female bettas, a male betta, 2 minnows,

I had my water tested a week ago, as soon as the first one died, and it all came back 100% clear.

I dont need a lecture on my fish choices, I have always added my fish one by one or in pairs and monitered closely (my male betta swam right past my huge male blue guppy and didnt think twice so they arent all bad), and they had all been doing fine in the water until this. The only thing thats changed in my tank is a couple of new fish which are doing fine (which is odd since they are meant to be sensitive) and some floating weed which i bought. could something have been on that?

Ive done a water change, and started on a course of bacterial treatment, after which will be fungal treatment as ive noticed whitespot AGAIN.

I dunno....any ideas?

Update:

Ive done home water tests and my nitrate/nitrite ph kh and everything else is fine, my local aquariun specialist also said everything is fine. I do use a dechlorinator and heavy metal remover for fresh watr. It wasnt the betta that killed the others since he died too, aside from there wasnt an aggressive bone in his body. For now im treating it as a disease, be it fungal or bacterial, theres no other explanation as far as i can tell

I bet it poor water Quality. if you are getting white spot then the pointers are all that you have poor water quality.

When changing the water are you using dechlorinators or normal tap water? If you are using tap water then you are killing the bacteria and restarting the cycle again.

get a test kit and check Ammonia, nitrate and nitrite levels. they should be

    Ammonia: 0ppm

    Nitrite: 0ppm

    Nitrate: less than 40ppm

So if your water is 100% clear all the time, let me ask you this (if you don't mind my asking), where are you testing your water? I found it a lot more helpful to buy a kit and test yourself as oppose to running back and fourth to the store. I have actually gone through the same thing, so what I did was tested my water, with my own kit, and went from there. Mine was actually the nitrates were too high. Now, I'm not saying that's always going to be your problem, but the best is to then find the proper medicine to deal with it.

Now on the other hand, if after testing yourself there is still nothing wrong with your water, I would have to assume that there is a disease spreading amongst your fish. It is possible it is ick because you said you were noticing white spots on your fish again, and ick is highly contagious.

You also have to find a suitable temperature for ALL of your fish. Now with my aquarium it isn't so hard because pleco, snails, guppies, and angelfish are all in the same kind of boat for temperatures. But with your high variety of fish, I think it would be best to do your research on all of your fish temperatures. But if it was to be temperatures, it's highly unlikely your fish would be dying so late.

I'm pretty sure you would dechlorinate your changing water considering I think you would have changed your water more than once since September of last year...

    Hope this helps (:

The problem can be disease spreading among the fish. Usually if you have sick fish you have to isolate it so it don't pass to others.

Like William wrote don't use antibacterial meds if it white spots it can be ich. Or if it white cottony patches? Then is something else.. If you can give us more details so we can figure out what it is.

I do know how to treat bettas with aquarium salt. I believe all 3 bettas that you have died though.

I have 10 all separate. How you keep 2 females and one male in one tank i don't know. I thought it not recommended though. Sorry i am not trying to judge you. If you ever need help with betta i can help. Bettas the one that very tolerable and beneficial when needed to salt treatments. Aquarium and Epsom salt have antibacterial/fungal effect. Each of that salt for different symptoms though. If yu ever need this information you can write to me on bettafish.com it a forum you can find me under ANHEL123

Good luck. I hope you will find out what wrong. You probably will need to treat whole tank.

Do not use bacterial or fungal treatments if you have white spot or "Ich". follow this advice:

    http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/disease/ich.php

Get a home liquid test kit so you can check the levels everyday for now. ammonia and Nitrite should be 0. If not do water changes. There should be traces of Nitrate, keep it below 40ppm, lower is better. If you have no Nitrate then your tank is not cycled. Do some more research and good luck.

The only reasons I can think of would be poor water quality, your tank never cycled, your not using dechlor.

Are you doing your regular water changes?

Did you let your tank cycle for the 4-6 weeks??

Are you using regular tap water or are you using dechlor??

If you don't use the dechlor then you will make the tank restart the entire cycle over thus killing the fish from ammonia, and nitrites..

If your fish have long fins the betta killed your fish. And think your water temperature was not perfect.

If u didnt use dechlorine to your tap water this is why ur fish died.

Either you are buying your fish from the worst fish store in the country or you have a water quality problem.

    Poor Fish Compatibility = Stress.

Stress = Water quality and Disease symptoms.

    Disease = Death.

*you seem smart so I wont ^lecture^ you, but they don't just make this stuff up to be alkward you know ;)

Just add some chips to them before you sit down to eat the fish and add lots of salt and vinegar to the fish & chips
