What EXACTLY does "love your neighbour mean" and why many christians on here dont do that?

Look at the answer 'Nooneathome" gave me on this question.

He gave me some angry condemning answer and assuming that i was sinning & justifying etc when its not even about me-i am a woman. The question was hypothetical & he went off the deep end with assumptions and anger.

When christians act condemning and cruel,it can hurt and confuse some people and cause fear.

So,does 'love your neighbour' mean yell at people?Condemn them?Terrify them?Call people or their thoughts 'pathetic'?

So,im confused, what does "love your neighbour exactly mean"?

Are all Christians on the same page regarding this or are some 'mentally confused'(no offense) themselves?

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."

and Christians don't do that because no one said it would be easy.

    we're people, please understand us.

BTW, love is not about sugar-coating things either.

When Jesus told the crowd, Love your neighbor as yourself, someone said, Who is my neighbor? Then Jesus told the story of the Good Samaritan. When He was about to be arrested, He told His apostles to Love one another as I have loved you.

A real Christian seeks to look for Jesus in everyone he meets. Any alleged Christian to acts condemning and cruel toward others is Not a Christian.

When the good Samaritan helped the traveler waylaid by robbers, those who heard the story realized that the Samaritan was a member of a lower class race. Here was Jesus praising a black person, or a Jew or a Muslim.

If your social group contains people who are mean or cruel toward you and others, you need to drop them and strive to find better friends. I do not know anyone like that. I prefer to socialize with people from my Church.

This is a great question. I see it a lot in R&S. But, usually the advice people ask for is the things they already know the answer to. Questions like: what can I do to be more Christlike? would get the type of response you seek. Questions like: Don't you know that God isn't real? is going to get the type of response you are used to seeing. Also, the guise of the internet and the ability to hide behind and avatar leads to some pretty nasty lashings. Christians who are unwilling to look at themselves first and do what the bible commands of them, are by far the most hypocritical type ever. No wonder we (Christians) have a bad reputation.

No..not all..love your neighbor to me means that I should simply think that I should treat people the way I want to be treated and try to keep the thought "what would Jesus do" in my mind for every situation. No..you should not call people pathetic or anything else and I am sorry that happened.

By the way..this site I feel does not always fairly represent any group..Christian or otherwise.

Personally I think this commandment is one that we all spend our LIFETIME learning how to apply it and live it fully and righteously. Which is why we see so many people who OBVIOUSLY do not yet understand it, right? :(

To "love our neighbor as ourselves" should lead us to love others fully and unconditionally. HOWEVER, I will mention that as I have thought about this often I also recognize that there are many people who really DO NOT KNOW HOW to love themselves either - so we are all learning as we go here, are we not?

We are all a work in progress......imperfect, flawed, sadly judgmental of others and often very hard on ourselves too.

    *Sigh.*

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, there are very few people that actually practice Christianity.

And I must ask, are you just misconstruing an event to cast a shadow over all Christians? 'Cause that's what it looks like.

    But I digress.

Love your neighbor means Love everyone. Pretty basic. And very few people, atheist, Christian, Hindu, whatever, do this.

As a Catholic Christian I try my hardest to live by these verses. This is what it truly means to love your neighbor.

Matthew 25:35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

If he is a true Christian his answers will most likely be Biblical based whether people approve of them or not. And he might have sources, as I do. Thanks for the question and have a wonderful day!

It means treat others as you would like to be treated, an incredibly flawed viewpoint that, more often than not, leads to being victimized. I prefer lex talionis. It is against human nature to show kindness to other members of the species. Every act is a selfish act.
