Unemployment Benefits?

I was told before my layoff that the Employment "people" can't withhold your unemployment checks if you don't attend their Orientation meeting. Is this true?

Yes they can. You have to go to their meeting which will explain the processes you must do. If you do not do the requirements (such as search for work, etc), they will not pay you.

NO, not true. They can definitely withhold payment. First off, you do everything they say :) That's if you want your benefits. That orientation will include information about what your responsibilities are while on unemployment. Its pretty straight forward. They just tell you about how you are expected to search for work, resume info and general stuff.

the state has authority to tell you to come down to the orifice for orientation, instruction, etc
