question about downloading screensavers.?

If I disable a Virus protection file, install a screensaver, then enable the Virus protection file again, will that work, or will the Virus file disable my screensaver. I tried to buy a screensaver, but no one sells them around here. Also, if this can be done, can you give me easy info on how to do this, please? I am not great with computers and Internet programs.

Update:

I have Windows XP and Avast Virus protection. I also have an older version of Marine 2 exe. that I want to activate. When I put the Avast on recently, the Marine Screensaver stopped.

    What Operating System are you using (e.g. Windows XP)?

    What Virus Protection Software are you using?

    They have some free screensavers here that are safe. I've downloaded and tested them.

    A screen saver is an executable. If it has a virus, a good anti-virus won't let you run it.
