if jesus forgives every sin, what is the reason to be moral?

Seems like non-christians would be better people based on this fact alone. Everyone else has to take at least some form of responsibility for their actions.

Oddly enough, I saw just yesterday someone saying that "a lot of christians are going to have to answer for their actions to god" when pretty much anyone who has taken the time to read anything here knows most christians believe they are forgiven and there's nothing that CAN'T be forgiven. I thought "How will they answer? Do they get a spanking? A strongly worded letter? WTF?"

I agree. The concept of forgiveness and sacrifice by proxy (ie, crucifixion of Jesus) hardly gives one a reason to behave in an honorable fashion. Yet somehow this is routinely twisted by a small but vocal group here that claims some people are atheist because they DON'T want to be held responsible when it is the "forgiven" christian who is never truly called to task.

I honestly don't understand the line of reasoning some people have. I guess that's a good thing.

Source(s): Nordic Heathen - we have no such concept as forgiveness and must bear responsibility for all of our own actions, like any decent, honorable person should.

Morality comes by letting God do all the work of change in us. Jesus does forgive sin. But not every one. Jesus does not forgive rebellion and rejection. Would be better people? There is no better people without Christ. God enables people to come to Christ. Why we can not take responsibility for our actions? Because only with Christ that we see that he alone took responsibility for our actions. Our actions where nailed to the cross. Jesus proved in the end that he is in control and he is our king. Jesus knows everything so we have the victory; for he is who he says he is and he will do exactly what he says he will do. So we left him up in praise higher and higher. Moral? Only by the grace and mercy of Jesus are we made moral. We are holy because he is holy. Holiness makes us moral. When we say No! to sin. When we say NO! To men and women that continue to live in immorality. We make a conscious decision because we love Christ more than these.SIN.

Source(s): Weeping does endure for a night but joy will come in the morning. When we begin to seek Christ for answers and not men. There is no man moral not even one. Without Christ. John 17. Jesus makes the difference between morality and immorality. I will praise him and I will shout for joy every chance I get.

Jesus does not provide for a blanket forgiveness of everyone no matter what, rather He has provided a way of forgiveness and salvation for those who repent and put their faith in Him. Some one who would claim to be a Christian but would live an immoral life, I think would be hard pressed to defend that he is actually a Christian, God looks at the heart, faith and repentance have to be real, its not a matter of magical words. As Matthew 7:13-14 says "“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it."

Many Evangelicals think of the Catholic priesthood isn't a valid element of God's plan. They factor to sayings like "call no guy father." some evaluate Jesus' condemnation of the hypocrisy between incredibly some the clergymen of his day as a blanket dismissal of the priesthood. they on occasion unearth the subject concerns of a few contemporary clergymen as data of their concept and talk of empty rituals carried out in accordance to the "traditions of adult males." Catholics genuinely do no longer think of the priest is God. Catholics have confidence the priest only does what Jesus commissioned the apostles to do, it is to serve the Church, it is Christ's physique in the international.

True, Jesus has forgiven every sin by His death and resurrection.

But if you actively pursue immoralty, evil, selfishness, then by those choices you close yourself off from that forgiveness. It is still there, omnipresent as the air, but you have chosen through your immoral actions, to ignore it.

The forgiveness of sins has to do with eternal salvation.

Immorality, or sin, in this life for the Christian has immediate consequences since fellowship with God is broken, no to mention the feeling of guilt. In heaven, sin in this life affects our rewards.

Because if you live your life in a sinful fashion, if you are a Christian, you will open yourself up to Satanic attack, plus you won't have as good a life as you would have, had you obeyed God and not sinned. Also, you miss out on God's blessings down here. Also, you may miss out on eternal life with God forever and ever. Also, like some said, you may wind up in jail, you could break up a marraige and hurt people. Sin hurts people. It hurts the person doing it and it hurts the people that he/she is doing it to or with. So, why would you want to hurt people. That's why Jesus came to set us free from that, so that we could live good, moral lives. God is not mocked, for whatsoever a man sows, that shall he also reap. If you sow to please your sin nature, you will reap destruction and if you sow to the Spirit you will reap everlasting life. You must be born-again ( ask Jesus Christ to be Lord and Savior of your life) to have help with the evil sin nature. It would also be beneficial to seek a separate experience after salvation , called the baptism in the Holy Spirit, where you ask God to baptize you in His Spirit and then when He does, the evidence of it is speaking in other tongues.

Even Christians can suffer horrible consequences when they choose sin over obeying God. I don't think they get away with it, believe me.

Galatians 6:7-9 (New International Version, ©2010)

7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. 8 Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. 9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

    Proverbs 22:8

Whoever sows injustice reaps calamity, and the rod they wield in fury will be broken.

Proverbs 22:7-9 (in Context) Proverbs 22 (Whole Chapter)

Proverbs 11:17-19 (New International Version, ©2010)

17 Those who are kind benefit themselves,

but the cruel bring ruin on themselves.

18 A wicked person earns deceptive wages,

but the one who sows righteousness reaps a sure reward.

19 Truly the righteous attain life,

but whoever pursues evil finds death.

The bible more or less tells it's followers they can do what the bloody hell they want and still get forgiven.

That's why you get so many Christians in prison and doing bad things the rest of us would never consider.

They use religion to hide behind as an excuse for just being a total bastard.

Jesus forgives sin if you show remorse and you are sorry for what you have done. That you will do better next time and that learning this has made you a better person. No one is perfect but to show that you are sorry and have learnt from your mistakes makes you a good, moral person. Haha I'm not even Christian - it just makes good sense! :) x

You have to read the Book of Romans in the Bible to get this answer. Basically Paul is telling us, yes you are forgiven of sins (meaning they can't condemn you to hell any longer), but sin itself is still BAD, and you shouldn't sin.

For example, you know your mother will love you no matter what you do. But what do you do with that power. Do you abuse it and hurt her over and over? NO of course not! You love her, and want to show you love her by doing things she'd appreciate and approve of.

Christians are the same with Jesus. We LOVE Him. He saved us! Of course we want to please Him and serve Him. Our sins have no hold on us any longer, so we are set free to live lives pleasing to the Lord. If we stumble and sin, we don't fear hell. We simply get back up, repent of that sin, and continue in faith...always trying to please our Father.
