What is the true meaning of Karma?
The word KARMA is very much used in popular culture. But sometimes I think that people miss the point of its true meaning. I would like to see if someone, in lay words, can explain this term.

Strictly spoken, karma means action. In general, especially in the west, it is often used to refer to the whole process of karma and the results it gives. Very briefly said: if you do positive things to others, happiness will befall you, and if you harm others, you will have to face problems/suffering in the future.
In Buddhism, the most important aspect of karma is actually the motivation with which an action is done, so usually, if your intention is to help others, you will experience happiness yourself in the future etc.
The law of karma is considered to be like a natural law, there is no God or so to decide if your action will have negative consequences for you. Instead, your own motivation in life will have consequences for yourself in the long run. You do need to realize that Karma usually comes together with the belief in rebirth, and many consequences of our karma are only experienced in a life after this.

Karma is like Newton's Third Law of Motion for morality. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
There is an alternate definition that I recently read and thought was rather interesting: Karma is 'habit energy'. When you are in a habit of behaving a certain way, that energy causes the world to respond in a similar way. When you get rid of the habit, you get rid of the habit, you get rid of the energy/karma.

Pop culture Karma is different from vedic Karm term.
In hinduism karma simply mean the goodness/badness you earn by doing deeds.
Karma is only caused by your actions which surely are reflections of your past life action (prarabdha/sancit collected karma); your thoughts and sanskars.
There are many categories of karma in KARMYOG.
But in simple language:
suppose if you killed a bee then IT(Soul of jeev) WILL SURELY KILL YOU IN SOME OTHER JANMA(rebirth) in different YONI(body).
In this bee donot earn any karma since Only HUMAN Can earn karma.
