When do used car prices drop?

I am considering buying a used car. My question is when do Used Year Model prices drop? For instance, if a 2006 is $15000 now, will it drop at the beginning of the year with 2010 models becoming more available on the used market? Or does the price hold steady. Basically, when is the best time of the year to buy a used car?

They drop based on condition and miles and how tired they are of having it sit on the lot.

Not a stuoid query, however automobile values do not paintings that means. Used automobile values slash progressively however there's by and large a bigger drop on the time that the brand new types of that automobile pop out, which would be just about any time for the period of a yr. Car makers introduce new units at more than a few occasions. So, a 2010 mannequin automobile might take a drop in the course of the 2010 mannequin yr, then take a bigger drop while the 2011 units out, carrying on with to drop progressively till the 2012 units pop out for a bigger drop, and many others.

As a car salesman, I will tell you that it really does not matter what time of year you buy unless you are looking at a convertible. (Convertibles sell better in the spring and summer) Always buy at the end of the month though. That is when dealers are trying to meet sales quotas and are more likely to deal.

The biggest impact on the sales price of a car is how long it has been in the dealers inventory. After 30 days they want to move the unit. After 60 days they need to move the unit. After 90 days they HAVE to move the unit. After 120 days, they send it to auction.
