How far in advance can you buy a pre-cooked ham?

I'm planning on buying a pre-cooked ham from my grocer to serve my guests on Christmas Eve. I would like to get it out of the way to be sure they won't be sold out. How far in advance can I get one without having to freeze it? Do they stay good for a while? Do I need to look for a 'sell by' date to tell me how long it will be good for?

Update:

Thank you!!

You can actually buy the ham and refrigerate it, there's no need to freeze a cured meat product, unless you want to keep it for a LONG term storage.

Buy your ham, and keep in in the coldest part of the refrigerator (the bottom shelf). You can buy a ham tomorrow, Sunday and it will keep in the fridge just fine till you serve it on Christmas.........

as long because of the fact the beef you consume is above a hundred and forty its suitable for eating no remember the variety you prepare dinner it. in case you have alot of drippings positioned some slices into that and bake for about 10 min if no longer nuke it gently it is going to dry out nevertheless. what I do is slice somewhat down and return all products to the roaster for 10 or 15 min and temp the slices if ok pull them out and return the bigger section on an identical time as you consume. remember your temp will strengthen each and every so often 10 degree on an identical time as you relax it. in case you pull it at a hundred thirty or a hundred thirty five and canopy with foil and relax contained in the roaster for 10 min formerly reducing temp returned and you will discover the temp has extra suitable its referred to as carry-over cooking maximum eating places place self belief in this methodology

If you buy it tomorrow it will be good for Christmas...

  • I would not leave it in the freezer more than a month.
