Is every young girl in the western world going to hell for taking the Lord's name in vain?

I mean, you know how much they use that expression 'omigod'. I'm no expert but I thought the Bible was quite specific on that one.

Update:

@ Jeff. Really? I expect someone prophesying like that to write the words on cardboard and publicly eat them if it doesn't happen.

Update 2:

@ Believer etc. Sheesh you Catholics are a touchy lot. But then, you've got more to feel guilty about than most.

I thought that as long as you repented and possible went to confession and did hail mary's and stuff it was all good.

Doesn't the bible say that even if you murder someone as long as you repent and love Jesus you can still get into heaven wasn't Jesus all about forgiveness and what not.

Also who would want to go to that kind of heaven anyway lol my god what a downer place to be!

  • My answer to this is what has God or Jesus got to do with any errors you have made. Their names should only be used in prayer. Any mistakes made by us are our own and not because of God or Jesus. Call yourself a jackass instead it would be better. God bless you.

Who ever are not born again will go to hell rather in the western world or the eastern world or where ever.

No body is going to hell for taking the name of Lord in vain or not in vain, either in east or west.

It doesn't matter east or west, vain or no vain, the name of the Lord works same in both conditions.

One who chants the holy name of the Lord is immediately freed from the reactions of unlimited sins, even if he chants indirectly [to indicate something else], jokingly, for musical entertainment, or even neglectfully. This is accepted by all the learned scholars of the scriptures.

If one chants the holy name of Hari and then dies because of an accidental misfortune, such as falling from the top of a house, slipping and suffering broken bones while traveling on the road, being bitten by a serpent, being afflicted with pain and high fever, or being injured by a weapon, one is immediately absolved from having to enter hellish life, even though he is sinful.

Authorities who are learned scholars and sages have carefully ascertained that one should atone for the heaviest sins by undergoing a heavy process of atonement and one should atone for lighter sins by undergoing lighter atonement. Chanting the Hare Kåñëa mantra, however, vanquishes all the effects of sinful activities, regardless of whether heavy or light.

As a fire burns dry grass to ashes, so the holy name of the Lord, whether chanted knowingly or unknowingly, burns to ashes, without fail, all the reactions of one's sinful activities.

    PURPORT

Fire will act, regardless of whether handled by an innocent child or by someone well aware of its power. For example, if a field of straw or dry grass is set afire, either by an elderly man who knows the power of fire or by a child who does not, the grass will be burned to ashes. Similarly, one may or may not know the power of chanting the Hare Krishna mantra, but if one chants the holy name he will become free from all sinful reactions.

If a person unaware of the effective potency of a certain medicine takes that medicine or is forced to take it, it will act even without his knowledge because its potency does not depend on the patient's understanding. Similarly, even though one does not know the value of chanting the holy name of the Lord, if one chants knowingly or unknowingly, the chanting will be very effective.

“‘Even a mleccha who is being killed by the tusk of a boar and who cries in distress again and again, “ha rama, ha rama” attains liberation. What then to speak of those who chant the holy name with veneration and faith?’

“The letters of the holy name have so much spiritual potency that they act even when uttered improperly.

“If a devotee once utters the holy name of the Lord, or if it penetrates his mind or enters his ear, which is the channel of aural reception, that holy name will certainly deliver him from material bondage, whether vibrated properly or improperly, with correct or incorrect grammar, or properly joined or vibrated in separate parts. O brahmana, the potency of the holy name is therefore certainly great. However, if one uses the vibration of the holy name for the benefit of the material body, for material wealth and followers, or under the influence of greed or atheism—in other words, if one utters the name with offenses—such chanting will not produce the desired result very soon. Therefore one should diligently avoid offenses in chanting the holy name of the Lord.’”

    PURPORT

This verse from the Padma Purana is included in the Hari-bhakti-vilasa (11.289) by Sanatana Gosvami. Therein srila Sanatana Gosvami gives the following explanation:

This means that if one somehow or other hears, utters or remembers the holy name, or if it catches his mind while coming near his ears, that holy name, even if vibrated in separate words, will act.

The holy name has so much spiritual potency that it can deliver one from all sinful reactions and material entanglements, but utterance of the holy name will not be very soon fruitful if done to facilitate sinning.
