my living room window was smashed by a snowball last night?
when i looked out i saw about 6 14 year olds running away, when i was on the phone to the police they walked past the window again staring at me with a smug look on their faces, the police did nothing, however if i was to do something to them the law would be on their side.
do you think that is fair?

Oh tell me about it! We have a bunch of youths (I mean teens here. Early-late teens, not little kids) pelting people, cars, houses etc with snowballs in our village.
When I say cars I mean MOVING cars (which can crash from snowball pelting, or have a windscreen smashed if the snowball has ice or stones in it.)
Ask them (nicely) to stop and you get a volley of abuse and jeers. Chase or threaten the little f*ckers and their chavscum parents turn up on your doorstep threatening YOU (this happened to us).
Phone the police and nothing gets done. Plus the horrible kids will do it more and target you in particular.
The only thing I can suggest is that what these kids have done is criminal damage under UK law. If you saw them and can ID them you need to report it to the police and make it clear you are seeking to press charges. My local police service told me that snowball pelting IS considered anti social behaviour and that I should report EVERY incident no matter how minor.
I don't want to sound like a scrooge but I've had a gutsful, I have a 13 week old baby and a 4 year old son who is ill with a tummy bug and am stressed out enough! I love Christmas and I used to love snowball fights when I was a kid but I never pelted neighbours houses, cars etc with the things (my parents would have given me a bloody good telling off if I had and probably grounded me!) . If they want to enjoy the snow let them pelt each other and their own houses, friends and family and leave the rest of us alone!!! Argh!!

Think about it for a moment. Can you identify the youth who threw the snowball? If not, what do you expect the police to do about it?
Unfortunately staring at you with a smug look isn't an offence, is it?

Unfortunately accidents will happen, and windows do get broken in snowball weather. Life is not fair. You have a remedy which is to go to their parents and tell them what happened. they may offer to pay for the breakage. If you are certain which boy threw the offending snowball you could take the parents to court. But, if you are wise, you will put it down to experience, and move on with your life.

jonny, "smug" is your interpretation. Sadly, police are like people - there are good and bad. I think they could have given you the courtesy to come up, ask for more detail, and probably - and truthfully tell you there isn't much they can do if you can't identify the actual thrower. If you have insurance, it probably covers the replacement.
I suggest you fix your window and not let this feeling fester. When you say "do something to them," do you mean the 14-year-olds or the police? I don't know what you can do to the 14-year-olds; you don't know who did it. If you have a problem with police service, contact your local elected official. Good luck.

You are right it is not fair. These yobs think that it is fun to do this sort of thing and while the police do nothing then they will continue.
Have a happy Christmas.

It's not fair, but, sadly, it will stay that way..
The police never does anything about that sort of stuff, simply because they don't want to bother with that. You should have went after them and yelled or something (i don't mean you should have harmed them, of course, but scare them off) and they wouldn't do it again. They're just kids. But that window costs.

hahahaha, i was out with 5 of my mates last night and we threw a snowball through a window and ran. it was great, we walked back past the house and the idiot was actually on the phone to the police!!
seriously tho, you should of just chased them, if you get hold of one of them, they'll never go near your house again.

Do you have any proof of who exactly threw it?
If not then just what exactly do you expect the police to do?

Its true the law is pointless they won't do anything probably say it was the wind lol
