What size BTU gas furnace do I need for my home?
I've had 6 contractors come and 6 different opinions. The furnaces I am looking at are 95% efficient. Here's a little about the house where the furnace will be going:
-Albany N.Y. area home
-2,250 sq ft.
-8 foot ceilings
-1987 2'4'' construction
Here are my questions:
-what size BTU gas furnace do I need?
-do I need 2 stage or single stage?
Note: I always pick a best answer so if you can give me a solid answer with a good explanation you will get a free 10 pts. The most important part of this is the WHY so make sure you include a deep explanation with your answer.

Whats In there now? There are WAY too many factors in the equation. Just off the top of my head 150,000 BTU
You need to run a load calculation. If they are pumping the data in you should be getting the same answers. If they are just going off the hip to say, then yeah all 6 will have different stories. If you already have a gas furnace in there then thats your guide as to HOW many BTU's you need.
Single stage just means that it runs all 150 BTUS at once. Where as a 2 stage means it only runs high fire and low fire. This is a two stage gas valve. 2 Stage system can greatly cut down the gas bill. Because the system will only run on low fire mode, then if it cant keep up it goes into high fire mode. This is all done via the control board in the furnace You set the temp you want and the furnace does the rest.
There is just not enough information to here to give you a solid answer.

the reason for so many answers is that with out all the information it can not be done and sure that if you find a guy with a pc with the right program in and you have all the sizes and how thick your wall insulation is and the size of each window how much insulation in the attic what do you have on the out side of your home all this and then some for its been while i did this in school for heating and a/c and plumbing you need to know the kind of plants you have around house and if the cellar has any insulation in it the slat of roof and what you have it cover with, there are just some of the things you will need ,all so like where you put the heater ,there is more but you have the idea if you want the down to the close btu for the weather plays in size to.
