Seniors. Wharever happened to 'blood oranges'?
I don't remember seeing them for a very long time. Don't know what their correct name is or why they look as they do. I wondered if they may be contrary to dupermarket uniformty attitudes

I believe it's called red-orange now..and they are more juicier then regular oranges, and do carry them at Kroger stores but only at a limited time though..quit bickering here now..it's x-mas time..=)

There were a couple of good years for the crops, the prices were reasonable then too. I think some people are turned-off by something with that name and the places inside the orange that looks like blood and maybe they didn't sell as well as the stores had hoped. Probably the weather has something to do on how well they produce. The last time I remember buying them it was in January.
I loved eating them, they have a great flavor.
You are in UK, so perhaps they were imported from Morocco. There have been floods for the past three in the northern part where the bulk of oranges are grown, and if they are imported from there that may be a good reason you are not seeing them like before.

Most supermarkets will stock only a certain range and I would guess blood oranges are not included . Your best bet is an independent fruit shop , or a local market . I do remember them from many years ago , but I have certainly not seen them for at least 15 years

I see them at the Farmers' Market all the time. You have to get out of the supermarket to find the good stuff.

I'm not a senior or British, but we DO have blood oranges in the US. I would try farmer's markets or independent grocers...no Tesco.

They are still with us.
I noticed some on sale in the Open Market, Brighton, just this morning.

I believe they are seasonal like stone fruit. Cooking Light's website has a good article about them

I think they come out a little later than other citrus. Look for them a littler later in winter
