calling all process servers?

hey guys quick question, I have a civil unlimited case obviously it's over 25,000, now i'm just wondering is this required personal service? or can it be substitute service after due diligence is made.

    Rules of service are VERY State specific. Without knowing your State, any answer is a pure guess.
