If the birth of Jesus was such an important event, why was the actual date not recorded? Something fishy going on here?

Aren't those 3 kings a methaphore for those 3 stars in the heaven near the bright star in the east while the 3 stars are "following" them?

They were so counseled in a dream. And they did not know why, they were simply obedient to the still small voice and turns out for all concerned(Herod's treachery taken into account)it was a good thing. But then obedience has its merits, doesn't it?

The gospels were not intended to be a biography, but rather were written that we might believe that Jesus of Nazareth is the Christ, the Son of God, and that, believing, we would have eternal life in his name.

Hound dog,
First, there were not 3 wise men!! Secondly, they were NOT at Jesus' birth in the manger....they arrived in Judaea when the Lord was about 2 years old.
"Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.
8And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.
9When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.
10When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
11And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh." (Matthew 2:7-11).
