Only way you could possibly overcharge it is if you modified the charger or used the wrong charger. These batteries along with their charging circuitry have high end regulator circuits. You CANNOT overcharge them.

First it’s important to understand what overcharging is:

Over-charging occurs when the charger keeps the battery at a temperature that is warm to touch (body temperature) while in ready condition.First it’s important to understand what overcharging is:

Li-Ion laptop batteries (www.batteryfast.co.uk) have built-in controller chips which prevent it from overcharging, as they can explode if overcharged. Overcharging does not affect the life span other than potentially destroying the battery.

A lithium-based battery should never be allowed to get warm in a charger. If you have this happen, the battery is no good or the charger is not working properly. Don’t continue to use the battery or charger if this happens.

A Lithium-ion battery may be damaged by extensive overcharging (continuously on a charger for more than 24 hours). Damage to the battery from overcharging would only occur in the very unlikely event of a malfunction of the charging system.

If im not mistaken all the newer batteries will only charge to a certain point and then any power is given directly to the laptop. Hence you can run the laptop and have it plugged in with a fully charged battery and it will not send the battery anypower. So it shouldnt decrease the life of you battery. What will decrease the life is if you let it die constantly instead of charging it before it drops to low. Say 15%. I use to keep my laptop constantly plugged in with a 9cell and it kept its 5 hour life for over a year until i got rid of it.
