is TEFL certification required to teach english abroad?

i want to travel and this is a very good way to do it, but do i have to become TEFL ( teaching english as a foreign language) certified to get a job?

anyone that has gotten a TEFL certification, what is best, going to get certified or just doing it online?

Update:

i have a few questions.

1. do you get placed by TEFL after you are certified?

2. are things like transportation paid for by the country, or is that come out of your pocket?

3. do you need to have a BA before you get started on the TEFL certification process?

In general you'll need a degree (although there are still possibilities if you do not have this) and a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certificate to get a visa and work.

The TEFL certificate can be taken either in-house or online at your own pace which is a much cheaper option (see http://icalweb.com)./

Once you have these you can look for work almost anywhere.

Yes! And I think getting certified is better.
