How do I uninstall windows 98?

OK I'm tired of getting the run around. I need step by step instructions on how to uninstall windows 98 on an old computer. Before you suggest it, windows 98 can not be uninstalled by going to the add-remove programs in the control panel on this computer. I'm almost sure you have to use the DOS commands.

When you're computer starts and runs through the memory check and bios boot, start pressing F8.

This will bring you to a screen where you can choose to boot in DOS. (if the MB will let you)

Next, you should be on <C:\>

Here you should type 'format C:' (without quotations) and hit enter. This will format the C drive and you will have nothing left on your hard drive.

If this does not work, you can always put the windows 98 CD in the drive, boot from that, then use their format system. That will work as well.

Boot your computer using a DOS bootable disk. Chances are you have a floppy drive so format a floppy and check (Make system disc).

Use the bootable disk and start the PC and you will be in DOS.

Change directory to the C: drive by typing C: (enter)

If you want to totally erase the entire disk including data you can do a wild card delete from the root directory C:\

Delete *.* this command will prompt [Y/N to continue] and if executed from the root it will erase the entire drive.

You can also copy the FORMAT command from the C:\DOS directory and place it on your floppy disk. You can execute FORMAT C: from the A drive to erase the entire drive.

If you wish to preserve data and just erase the Win98 than switch to the C:\Windows directory and erase its contents then go up a directory and remove the windows directory using RMDIR C:\Windows

Use the cd\ function to change directories

CD\ moves to the root directory of the current drive

CD\Windows will change to the Windows directory on the currently selected drive

RMDIR only works if the directory your are trying to remove is totally empty.

You will now have to edit the Autoexecute.bat file and remove the call which starts windows or delete the autoexecute.bat file

After you do this you will not have an OS and the only way to access your hard drive will be with a DOS boot disk.

    Well!

If you are using two windows start the other O.S instead of Windows 98. and after starting the other O.S. You have to format the Drive in which Windows 98 is installed. and after formatting windows 98 will remove from the computer but computer will show the name of windows 98 on booting. but it is not a big matter.

And other thing if you want to remove the windows 98 and want to install the XP or any other O.S. Then start your computer and put the Windows XP CD in Cd Drive. When it will boot then it will say you the message "Press any key to boot from CD....." then you should have to press any key then computer will boot from CD. and will copy some files after loading files computer will show you the procedure of installing windows XP. when you follow these steps that computer tell you. after it computer will show you the partitions of your HDD. and when it shows you should select the drive in which the Windows 98 is installed. Then press Enter. Computer will ask from you in what file system you want to format the drive. then select the NTFS file system. and format it. then windows 98 will remove when the drive will format. and after it Windows XP will begin to install in the computer.

It is no way to uninstall the windows 98 from the Control Penal and Add Remove Programs. Windows 98 is an Operating system. it is not any application software. and the operating systems don't show in the control penal. you can remove them by formatting the Partition in which the operating system is installed.

    Thanks...

Is there a boot menu option when powering up your computer. You can select it by pressing f12 and then boot from a newer windows OS. Reformat the drive and boot from the cd and install the new os.
