Do hackers ever actually do something right for people?

Well...I give bury my boot up their a**s myself sometime, but it's a fact that reformed Hackers are often the very people who create the anti-virus we need!

I am a hacker, have been for 34 years or more. Bill Gates was and is a hacker, Steve Jobbs was and is a hacker.

Most of the other answers touched on this, there are White Hat, Red Hat and Black Hat hackers. White Hat is usually a hobbyist or programmer that makes a system or program work better. Red Hats are the same, just U*NIX like, or they are testing systems for weaknesses.

The last ones are malicious or crackers.

That is kind of old computer jargon, but I am a kinda old computer hobbyist.

Well , there are always two faces of everything . That is good and bad. In hacking also ,there are good uses as well as bad uses. But it is very upset to say,that maximum users are involved in the bad use , doing harm to others or stealing and making their profits. But there are many good uses too..Good hackers that help others to solve the problem or create new package or software are known as ethical hackers.

For example , if you have Windows service pack trial .., and you need to activate it. You will google it or search on youtube for it and you will get your results which work properly.You would say that these are designed by mastermind software makers , but in other sense they are hackers which lookout through the dll and other data files of software and get another software according to that.

Bad use of hacking , the most common resluts are virus , malwares , spywares, etc..

Tech companies use hackers to test their software so that the everyday user is better protected, so that's a benefit. And lots of "hackers" use existing software for unintended purposes (like everyone's doing with Kinect), so a lot of what's coming out of that could be beneficial. And the military uses hackers in a lot of cases rather than human intelligence agents, so depending on how you view that, that's good.

Hi.It was either last year or a couple years ago that the government was actually hiring hackers. It was not a scam or anything. The government just needed to hire hackers for a job. Of course the person would get paid.

Well I obviously don't speak from experience but honestly it would be challenging to be destructive in the first place. It's a lot harder than it sounds to hack something, especially something money related. I suppose it would be possible to work the opposite way and give people money but it's not going to be unnoticeable since you'd just get your balance and realize something wasn't right. But they're in it usually to cause trouble just for the fun of that, or to try and make themselves a lot of money.

Hackers help people all of the time. These hackers are known as "ethical hackers" and they work for bigger corporations to help them up their security. They will go in and attempt to hack into a coorporations network, and whenever and wherever they succeed they will tell the coorporation what security flaws there are and how to fix them
