If I change the fluid in my transmission will it help our car? HELP?

98 Toyota Camry is running a little rough and the fluid is getting very dark. Probably never was change and car has 107,000 miles. When you go on the highway you notice a jerk or rough shift into the higher speeds but on slower rides I do NOT notice it.

Do u think changing the fluid will help? Thanks

By the time the transmission acts up, it's too late for a fluid change to be of any use. Changing the fluid is a preventative measure as outlined in the maintenance schedule. Think of it this way, if you never changed the engine oil, you'd have damage done beyond what an oil change could cure.

Check the Passport to Performance that came with the car (accompanied the owner's manual) for the service schedule. If you don't have that handy the schedule is available in a tedious form at the first source. I see it does not call for transmission fluid replacement at all, just inspection every 15K miles. You have inspected it and found it wanting (bad color).

At 12 years old I'm sure the fluid has broken down and needs to be replaced. I hear a lot of people say if the fluid has not been changed on schedule it should not be flushed because debris can get washed into sensitive areas, but I don't know how reliable that advice is and I am not a fan of flushing if it is not specifically called for, and Toyota does not call for it.

I would say a drain and fill would help and wouldn't hurt.

Did your Uncle say that he had examined the leakage of the transmission fluid and that it grow to be so extreme that the oil point grow to be too low for the automobile to be pushed? Did HE individually examine the point of the fluid. If he says that the automobile won't be able to be pushed dazzling, did he say how he is going to take it to a restoration save? someway, I even have a 'undesirable feeling' approximately this. I desire there grow to be some way that i ought to have extra info with regard to the leakage -- the place it is coming from and how extreme it is. applicable now, i'm at a loss to propose you. are you able to touch your mom and ask her for extra info approximately how the leakage could have been led to and how it grow to be detected? Did your mom run over a extreme decrease or something and 'hit backside' under the hump interior the front seat floor? Did she be conscious the leakage inflicting a actual pool of oil under the automobile after she parked interior the lot at paintings? New exchange transmission oil could be offered and further to the transmission actual and make it risk-free for using, if the leakage is barely a drip now after which.

it won,t hurt it any, especially if the filter is getting dirty. but it sounds more like stuff like spark plugs and plug wires.
