It depends on their music, but I believe it's usually the solo artists.

Solo artists.
If a band and a artist earn 50000 dollars, the artist claims all for himself but band distributes the sum!

When it comes to making money it's usually whether or not their music is catchy. Catchy music (aka Justin Beiber, Lady Gaga, Far East Movement) tend to make more money because people will remember those songs because they stick in your head. Solo artists or bands do not play a factor in this.
