Is Fort Carson, Colorado any where near the Sangre de Cristo mountains?
I can't seem to get a good idea on any of the maps I've looked at.

Ft. Carson is just barely south of the City of Colorado Springs. Ft. Carson is smack dab against the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains...in front of Cheyenne Mountain, and just a hair south of Pikes Peak. The Sangre de Cristos are about an hour south of Ft. Carson, just west of the city of Pueblo, and stretch to east of Alamosa, and down into New Mexico. There are 5 major ranges of the Rockies in Colorado...each with its own name....and smaller ranges with their own names, too. I lived in Colorado springs over 25 years and drove through the Sangre De Cristos many times.

The Sangre de Cristo mountains are about 1.5 hours southwest of Fort Carson, just west of the Wet mountains and Front Range. These are some of the most beautiful mountains I've seen in Colorado, especially when you visit the Great Sand Dunes, between Mount Blanca and Crestone Peak.
