What is wrong with my dryer?
Okay so i haven't used my dryer in about 3 days. No one has turned it on or even messed with it. But i went to use it a minute ago and it was hot. Like i said it hasn't been used in a few days. Another note, When i opened the dryer door, it looked like it was on fire from the glare but it was just real red. Anyone got any idea what could be going on?

the heating element is shorted to ground, unplug and call repairman

The timer or heat switch contacts are stuck on. The coils should only come on when it's running and air is moving to cool the heat coils.
That is a fire waiting to happen and the dryer should be unplugged and serviced.

Sounds as if the heat control switch is bad or the fan motor is burned out. Try turning the dryer on and off again. if that doesn't fix it, better call a repair man. Meanwhile, if it still doesn't turn off find the circuit breaker in the electric panel (it should be marked) and turn it off.
