How do gain more dancing oportunities?

I have a best friend who always get to dance ballet at school functions and other performances. I am also a ballet dancer but I never get any opportunities to dance. I've asked my friend once or twice if maybe I could dance with her once but she usually blows me off. I really want people to know that I'm a dancer and I want to be able to perform because I love it. What should I do?

Attend summer intensives that include a performance at the end of their program. Auditions for summer intensives will be starting next week. Get hold the current issue of Dance magazine to find auditions near you.

If your ballet studio does not mount major productions, look for others in your area that do and see if they allow outside students to audition for their shows.

Hmm that's tough. I used to feel like this all the time because I loved dance so much and felt like I was doing a ton of work and not getting to perform. I'm not sure how to answer this question, because this may not be the answer you're looking for. If you want, you could get someone to choreograph a solo for you and you can enter it in competitions. You might not like that idea, but I found it very helpful to compete a few solos to pay off for all of the hard work I had done with my dancing. If not, I bet you can find an opportunity to dance at workshops or intensives or camps. Good luck!

If your friend blows you off, then "unfriend" her.

Ask your studio's director or teacher about it and explain to him or her that you want to perform. If they blow you off, go to a different school.

In fact, going to more than one studio/school can increase your opportunities.

If you absolutely can not find any opportunities in your area, you can either move or create your own production. Creating your own production can be difficult, but you can ask your classmates and their parents if they are interested in starting their own production (since there are no other opportunities around).
